"Someone's hungry!" Lindsey cooed happily as he carried the fussy baby over to Stevie. It had been two days since Sara's arrival and both Stevie and Lindsey were still on cloud nine.
"I didn't know babies ate so much," Stevie gently took her daughter, exposing her breast to the baby who began to eat
"Apparently our little girl does." He sat down beside mother and baby, stroking Sara's dark hair."I love her." Stevie said.
"Me too. You're such a good mama already. How did I get so lucky to have two incredible girls in my life?"
She smiled up at him, kissing his lips softly. "We are even luckier the to have you."
"She surely has an appetite," Lindsey commented as the baby had her hand pressed against her mother's chest, eating hungrily"Her little noises are so cute!" Stevie cooed
"She squeaks like a mouse." Lindsey chuckled. The baby suddenly pulled off. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."The baby went back to suckling and Stevie giggled. "She's already a spitfire."
"That she is. She's perfect." He kissed the baby's head then Stevie's. "Anything I can get you? I'm sure you're hungry from nursing so much. Or maybe a cup of tea?"
"Tea would be nice, milk and sugar," She smiled softly, kissing him again"I'll be right back!"
Stevie stared down at her daughter as she nursed. She imagined all the things this perfect little girl would do, tracing her petite features with the soft touch of her finger tip. "You are so beautiful." she praised. "I hope those smoky blues stick and you get your daddy's eyes."
"Tee?" Barbara whispered as she entered the room, "I brought you some soup."
"Oh, thank you! Lindsey just went to make me a cup of tea." Stevie invited her mother inside."How are you?" Barbara sat down beside her daughter, careful not to disturb the baby at her breast.
"I'm great." The younger girl smiled and Barbara wrapped an arm around her daughter.
"You are a fantastic mother. I knew you would be.""Lindsey's done most of the work. He wakes up at night and changes her."
"But you have been nursing her and healing from the birth which is very hard work. You guys are a great team.""Thanks, mama."
"I'm glad Lindsey is helping you. He's a wonderful father as well. Already so devoted to the two of you."
"I'm so lucky to have them..." Stevie teared up as she rubbed the back of Sara's head"Oh honey..." Barbara chuckled, hugging her tightly
"I feel like it's those stupid hormones. Will they ever go away?""Sometimes when you become a mother, you tend to gain a sentimental heart. I'm sure if I dwell, I could still cry over you and Chris."
Stevie giggled. "So the answer is no?" Barbara smiled and shook her head.
"I got your tea," Lindsey whispered as he entered the room, afraid that the baby was asleep and he could wake her"She's still eating, you don't have to be quiet."
He smiled. "Her feeds are so long.""She's hungry and I read that they will get shorter but more frequent as she goes through growth spurts, then they'll slow back down again." He set the tea down on the night stand and watched the two of them in awe. His eyes glittered with adoration.
"I have to go back to work soon," Lindsey said sadly, not wanting to leave the two of them
"I know you have to do what you have to do but I wish you could stay.""I do too but I can still come home to you, right?"
"Of course," she chuckled, kissing his cheek"I'll bring you something nice home."
"You don't need to do that. You already gave me the nicest gift a girl could ask for." She briefly looked down at her baby who was now asleep and smiled, stroking her soft curls then looked back up at Lindsey.
