Thursday, November 24

The next thing I remembered was the warm feeling of someone's breath on my shoulder. I could feel that I was in bed. It felt like the same bed I always slept in... It smelled the same too.

Was that all just a terrible nightmare?

I opened my eyes to a dim room... Our room. But for some reason it seemed... off... I was sleeping on the opposite side of the bed that I usually slept on, yet I was still facing the bathroom like usual.

Am I... Am I in the fucking mirror!?

I shot up in an attempt to better understand my surroundings.

"You OK, babe?" A familiar voice asked.

"Joji...?" I was so relieved to hear his voice, but when we made eye contact, it was a less pleasant experience.

Those cold, dripping black eyes. This was not the Joji I loved. I screamed in shock, rolling out of bed.

"DON'T TOUCH ME!"

"Babe... What's wrong?" The demon frowned.

"YOU FUCKING KIDNAPPED ME!!! AND I'M NOT YOUR BABE, FREAK!" I ran up to the mirror in the hope that I'd see Joji on the other side... But I couldn't.

"You won't be able to see him." The demon mumbled as he got out of bed.

"So... I'm trapped here?" I replied shakily.

"That's not exactly what I meant... He can see you, but you can't see him."

I raised an eyebrow in confusion, my back still facing the demon. "How does that work?"

He scratched his head, thinking of a way to explain.

"Well, if you haven't noticed already, you're in an alternate universe. Entities that don't belong in our universe can't be seen from the other side. However... There are exceptions..."

"So... He can see me because I'm from that universe?"

"No. You're not. But you are one of the exceptions."

It seemed like the demon was trying to contain himself from slapping me when I said that. He took a second to pull himself together, then he continued.

"If an entity spends enough time in the opposite universe, their being distorts so that they seem to be from both universes as a middle ground."

"Middle ground for what?" I tilted my head. This stuff sounded interesting, but it was a lot to take in.

I'm from this universe?

"If an entity spends too long in the opposite universe, they will distort again as if they belong to it, however, all memory and signs of existence will be destroyed from the original universe to keep balance in both universes."

This is some weird sci-fi shit.

"So... I'm from this universe?"

He nodded. The pieces began to connect for me. This wasn't a demon from hell trying to kidnap me... This was Joji trying to bring me home...

What the actual fuck... Is this a trap?

"So... If you're Joji... Why do you look like that?"

"The universe is trying to erase my memory of you... But I'm not having it. So they're trying to erase me instead. And it fucking hurts."

"Then why aren't you screaming?"

"I didn't want to freak you out... But now that you know why I need to scream..."

Joji clutched his head, screaming in agony as the universe crushed his mind slowly but surely. He fell to his knees as they grew weak. I couldn't tell if he was faking or not, but as soon as he coughed up blood, I had a feeling that he wasn't.

I ran to him, holding him in my arms as he began to shake violently.

"J-Joji!? How can I help?"

"S-stay h..." He screamed again in agony. The pain was too much for him.

He didn't need to finish the sentence for me to know what he needed. I held his head against my chest.

As soon as I touched his head, my hand glowed slightly as a result of the contact. Joji turned his head to look at me. His eyes were still black, but they no longer oozed blood.

"Thank you... For believing me." He raised a shaky hand to touch my cheek.

Just at that moment, the other Joji stepped in through the mirror, carrying... a lighter?

Oh boy...
