Chapter 3

Zane's POV

I stared down at my lap and saw a fis-mermaid. On me. I screamed and scurried away from it, my forehead dripping with cold sweat.

"What are you!? Who are you!?" I screamed at her. I saw the mermaid turn to its side, facing me.

...This isn't a mermaid.

It's long emerald green tail slapped against the sand and it's shaggy, long, white hair hung to its shoulders.

It's a...boy? A merboy? Merman? Gah, whatever you call it.

I was visibly shaking as I stared at this creature, I slowly crawled towards it and...I poked its forehead.

"AH!" The creature screamed and slapped me, I screamed as well and fell on my back and kicked it. The creature rolled towards the ocean and stopped, it was stuck in the shallow water and couldn't move further to get into the actual drift of the ocean.

"Go! Leave!" I shouted from afar at it.

"I wish!"

It talked.
The creature talked, it talked English? Human? Yes it's part human but I never knew they could speak this language.

"You talk?!" I yelled back to it. It opened its mouth to talk but stopped and stared at me blankly.

"...Yes."

"So you do..." I got up on my two feet and stared from afar at the sea creature. It was so strange...no one in my village has ever met or even seen a real mermaid. Err..whatever this one is. It has shoulder length hair like a female normally would have. But it's body is different from a females. I decided to step closer to it, I walked along the sand slowly, getting closer and closer to it. He looked kind of..scared. But he had confidence in his voice when he would talk. Once I reached him, I was about two feet away, he looked up at me and his eyes sparkled. Was he crying? No, it's just the sunset gazing off it. Then he spoke:

"How do you do that?"

"What?"

"How are you up straight with your fins, and how do you have two?"

"Fins? These are legs." I moved them a bit and then pointed to my feet. "And those, they're feet. They help me walk."

He stared at my legs then my feet, he then reached out and poked my leg.

"I-Uhm..." I started, but just stopped and stared at him. I didn't know what to say, what to do even.

He looked up at me and asked, "Are you a merman? With legs and feet?.."

"What? Merman..? No. I'm a human..."

"Those are real!? I only heard stories!" His green eyes widened and he got clearly excited but started coughing softly.

"Are you okay?" I kneeled down close to him, he seems defenseless, I should be safe.

"Water.." he coughed out.

He's a merman...right.

I reached down and scooped the merman up into my arms, he's not too heavy.

My feet trench through the shallow water and I lower him slowly, he started squirming and he yelped a bit.

"Stop moving!" I yelled, he just continued squirming and I threw him into the ocean, "I told you to stop moving!" I yelled out at him and growled, once I realized what I had done my eyes widened and I immediately started freaking out. "Merman thing!"

Splash

I saw his tail flip up as his body gracefully moved throughout the currents and go deeper into the sea.

There he goes...

I sighed and sat onto the sand, great.

"I didn't even get his name...what a cliche moment....."
