Chapter 12:Jessica

To shocked of how the interview went, I decided to text Rachael instead of call. I sit on the bench outside of the building waiting for Rachael to arrive. Five minutes pass and the car pulls up. I hop into the car. "How'd it go? Did you get it? Was he hot?" she yells questions at me. I notice the driver smirk at her reaction.

"I have til five tonight to decide if I want the job" I say giving her a sheepish smile. She screams in happiness. "Well what are the pros and cons?" She asks as the driver starts heading back to the house.  "Well pro is the insurance and pay. Con would defiantly be the moving into a condo and hours. Oh another pro is two days a week I can work from home" I tell her. "Condo" she asks in confusion. "He requires his secretary to move into a condo in his complex. He is replacing his secretary due to her retiring. Just how he works and it is a 'requirement'" I say using my hands to quote the word. 

"Wow. I mean i've heard of it but never knew anyone who had to do it" she says in shock, trying to diguest the news. "Do you want to do it" she ask after a few minutes. "I mean its the ideal job, I just didn't think I would be moving out of the house" i say quietly. A smirk appears on Rachael's face, "Yes I have noticed you and Nala are quiet taken with Ben." I roll my eyes at her comment. She has been trying to push Ben and me together every chance you get. 

We continue our ride in silence. After another twenty minutes we pull into Ben's driveway. "Jess" Rachael says putting her hand on mine. "If you really want to, take the job. Its a once and a life time job to be honest. Ben will understand and you  guess can still see each other" she says trying to encourage me.

"Thanks Rach" I give her a hug, then get of the car with my purse in hand.

Walking into the house I see Ben making lunch and no sign of Nala. How do i even bring up the moving situation if i get the job. "Where is Nala" I ask as I sit on the bar chair. "Nap. She fell asleep, so I fed her a little early and put her to sleep" he explains as he continues making a sandwich. "Want one" he asks. I nod, "Sure, if you don't mind." He just smiles and begins making another sandwich. 

Once Ben finished the sandwiches he placed a plate in front of me and then sat next to me with his. "How was the job interview" he asks curiously. "I ah don't know if I am going to take the job" I sigh. "You got offered the job" he says sounding excited for me. "Yeah, but there is pros and cons to it" I add. "Care to share? Maybe talking it out will help" he says then takes a bite of the sandwich.

"I would have to move" I say barely above a whisper. I watch Ben go tense at my words. He turns his body to completely face me. "Move" he repeats. I nod, "Yea its one of the requirements. I would move into a condo in his building" I explain. He emotion passes though his eyes. Hurt? "Is that a con?" 

"Of course it is" I say running my hand through my hair. "Okay what are the other pros and cons" he asks. "Pros would be pay, insurance,working from home and getting experience. Con would be having to getting a babysitter for Nala and moving" i ramble off. 

"So the cons win" he states looking down at his plate. "No. I mean well yeah there is more of them, but I don't know. Yet" I stutter. I hear him sigh and face me again. He places his hands on my hands. "I know we both talked about you staying, but this sounds like a once and chance opportunity and I think you should take it. I can come over and watch Nala when your needed. Of course until I'm deployed again" he says. I feel tears building up and look down hoping he doesn't notice. He hooks my chin with his finger and pushes it up so we make eye contact. "I would also really like to take you on a dates, so I promise you will see plenty of me" he says giving a smile.

I smile back and watch as he leans in to kiss me. Oh and how magical it felt when he placed his lips over mine. Yes cliche, but I don't care. The kiss was slow and meant so much. He stops the kiss and whispers, "Does that sound good?"

I nod and he kisses me again.

After lunch I did called Mr Lakes secretary and told her I would take the job. They wanted me to start tomorrow on a Tuesday and if I did good by Friday they would give me the keys to the condo and it meant it was officially my job. The secretary was a sweet older lady named Beth. She went over the basics with me over the phone and said I was all set to start tomorrow morning.

Once I finished the phone call I went and checked on Nala. She was awake sitting in the crib. "I'm going to have to get you a toddler bed" I mumble to myself. She smiles hearing my voice. I pick her up, "Hey sweet girl. Guess what? Mama got a job!"  She claps hearing my excitement. "It will be sad knowing I won't be spending so much time with you but I promise when I am not working I will spend all my time with you Nala. Plus that means you will hang out with Ben and Rachael still" I tell her. She places with my necklace not acknowledging anything I have said.

My phone goes off to see its Rachael. 

"What's up Rach?"

"You make the decision with my brother and don't tell me!"

"Sorry. I ended up talking to the secretary for a while and now I am spending time with Nala"

"Ohh Nala! I miss that girl"

"You just saw her two days ago" I laugh at how dramatic she is

"Still and I bet she misses me" 

"I'm sure" I say loaded with sarcasm.

"So you never mentioned if you boss was hot" she says going serious.

"Even if he is, doesn't mean I am interested. He is just my boss" 

"Well Ben is concerned he has competition" I can tell she defiantly has a smirk on her face.

"Really? Why would Ben say that" Im surprised at the another topic change.

"He called being sad that your going to move and how he doesn't like you working for Kevin Lakes. Apparently he knew him in high school" she chuckles.

"He didn't tell me that" I mumble.

"I eventually would've but I seem to have a loud mouth sister to tell all my secrets for me" I head Ben say from behind me.

"Shit! I gotta go!" I hear Rachael yell and then hang up.

I turn around to see an amused looking Ben.
