Chapter 9: Benjamin

The bbq went great. Nala and Jessica seemed to be comfortable around everyone. Mattie though, I didn't like how much they were around each other. Its now nine pm and I just finished kicking the guys to the curb before they got to much alcohol in their systems. 

"You guys seem really close" I snap my head away from the tv to see Jessica walking over to the couch. She sits down and waits for my response. "Yeah we are. We have been through a lot. I started my team at the age of since I was twenty one. Been ten years with Jacob. The rest of the men joined every couple years. Been nine year doing missions. Matt joined five years ago."

"Wow. That's crazy. On the special unit team by the age of twenty. I know I don't know a lot about the world, but that seems young. Even being a head of a team at twenty one like you" she says in amazement. "I joined the marines right out of high school. Went to boot camp two days after my high school graduation. Just like Matt, when you bust you butt you move up fast. Though Matt did show some outstanding skills, he has his childish moments" I tell her. I chuckle remember the pranks he has done over the last few years.

Jessica smiles, "Well he seems sweet." I frown at her comment. "Ben?" 

"Hmm?"

She leans forward, "Why do you glare at Matt whenever he talked to me? Or any of the guys?" I rub the back of my neck then lean back in the seat, tipping my head completely back on the couch. How do I answer that? I don't even know why I was acting like that. Or maybe I do, just don't want to admit it. 

"Why were you snapping at Matt when he was talking to me" she asked again. I stand up in frustration of trying to find the right words to say. My back faces her as I look out the living room window. I cross my arms over my chest. God how do I get myself out of this.

I hear her walk up behind me and then watch as she moves to stand in front of me. "I may have been locked in a building for the last twenty five years of my life, but I do know a lot from what I read" she says softly. "When you ready to explain let me know" then she goes on her tippy toes and kisses my check. As she walks away I hear her whisper " Goodnight."

What the hell! Now I am more confused as ever! I turn around and watch as she disappears from view. I know I am attracted to her thats for damn sure, but I am suppose to be trusted with her and Nala to introduce them back to civilian life. That also means sooner or later her and Nala are suppose to move out. "No" I mumble to my self. Its only been weeks, but I couldn't imagine them not in the house. It would be to quiet without Nala and Jessica's laughter and singing filling the house.

I pull out my phone and text Jacob. "Hey man call me."

Within a minute my phone rings. "Hey man"

Jacob: Let me guess Jessica?

I sigh, "that predictable"  

Jacob: You were acting like a jealous boyfriend tonight, so I figured Jessica would pick up on that and question you. Im assuming by you calling me, that you shut down.

Me: I hate how you are always on top of things some times

Jacob: Well you know I am top notch when it comes to interrogation and knowing facts of a case. So I am absolutely on spot when it comes to observing the ones around me. 

I hear him laugh. 

me: Enough laughing at my situation and tell me what you think

Jacob: Stop thinking so much. I honestly think she lives you. Plus Nala adores you! The only other guy that is able to get close to them is Matt

I growl at the name.

I hear Jacob laugh again.

Jacob: Its clear man! Stop over thinking and tell her how you feel. I know you havent been very long since we have meet her, but every since you laid eyes on her youve had feelings and you know it!

Me: Ah alright!

Jacob:really? Youll grow some balls?

Me: Shut it Willings! Plus my balls will always be bigger then yours!

Jacob: Very mature!

Me: Me?! You started it!

Jacob: Ahhh! Enough I'm going to bed!

With that he hangs up. That is the best advice I can get. Knowing the others they would laugh at him calling them for women advice. Heading up the stairs I notice Jessica and Nala's door open. "Jess" I say softly. I lean on the door frame as I watch Jessica stand up from the side of Nala's bed. She places the book she was reading on the side table and walks towards me.

"Ben" she says with a small smile. My eyes are drawn to her lips, but when I feel her hand on my cheek my eyes snap to hers. "Where you jealous today Ben?" On her face a devious smirk is displayed. "Ahh" I am so shocked by her words, I am not sure what to say. I open my mouth, but close it when nothing comes out. Tell her how you feel, I tell my self, but I am still standing here not saying anything.  Then she kisses me.
