Madeleine:
I have been sitting in the kitchen, watching the clock on the stove. I'm honestly so excited I can barely sit still. In four days, the wolf fight will start, and I'm picking Luna up at the airport today. I have this big, goofy grin on my face just thinking about it!
I watched as the clock went from displaying 11:59 to 12:00. I jumped up, grabbing my keys and purse.
"Juli, it's twelve. I'm going to the airport now. I can't wait any longer."
"Madi, promise me one thing before you go." she said looking up from her tomato plant, in the garden of course.
"Sure. What is it?"
"Don't." she sighed. " don't be disappointed if Luna isn't the same little girl that worshiped the ground you walked on and would wait by the door, every day for you to visit." It shocked me that Juli thought that I didn't realize that. I knew the responsibility that I was taking on.
"You don't think I know that? Juli, I know what emotional pains Luna must have been through. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if she resented me a bit; hated me, even. Yeah, it will hurt, and I don't understand what she might be feeling. But I do understand why she would feel that way. I'm just happy to have a chance to be that someone who is always there for her."
"I'm sorry I doubted you."
"It's fine. But I am going to have to ask you to trust me in my decisions concerning Luna."
"Of course."
"Thanks." I gave her a little, awkward one-armed hug and turned to the door.
"Now. I'm going to go pick up my 'daughter'." With that I walked through the house to my car, and hopped into my Lexus.
My car has a bigger trunk than Juli's did; I was anticipating a number of bags with this girl.
I got onto the highway and accelerated, picking up speed. It takes about two hours to get to Chicago O'Hare from where we live. The town we live closest to doesn't have an airport.
The silence in the car is starting to get on my nerves. I reached for the radio and turned it on. I just entered Chicago, driving past the Cubs stadium. I started tapping the steering wheel along with the beat of the music while looking for my turn off. When I found it, I started driving into the parking garage.
I got a parking spot. Finally! I drove around for almost twenty minuted! Ridiculous. I got out of the car, stretching my legs, then making my way towards the elevator. I was lazy. When I got inside, I began scanning the area for the escalators. I walked on one and waiting till' it took me up to the next level, where the terminals are at. I found myself a comfy seat in a little cafe that had a perfect view of the two little screens which had the schedules of incoming planes. I sighed, bored yet still excited, and got my iPod out for the wait, however long it may be.
After about thirty minutes her plane finally arrived. I made sure to go stand in an open spot, where Luna would see me right away. I told her I would be wearing a red jacket, and so I was. I stood still for what seemed like hours with my eyes locked on the terminal doors when this really tall guy walked out. He was HUGE! I saw this lady as tall as my 5'3" run up to him and engage him in some serious spit swapping. They sure do make a strange couple. My attention was drawn away from them when I saw a head of dark brown hair coming my way. She's here! Luna had dark brown hair, almost black. Her brown eyes were as vivid as they got. She looked about 5'8" and had a Jansport back pack on. It looked like it'd seen better days.
