*6pm Saturday September 9th*
Cole is helping me wash dishes. My mom has said goodnight but not before giving Cole a few flattering words. She sends a wink my way before walking upstairs to her bedroom. "I like your family," says Cole as he hands me a dish to rise.
"That's good. They seem to like you," I say.
"We should get our families together for lunch sometime," says Cole and I smile.
"I will bring it up with them," I say.
"Me too," says Cole. After we finish the dishes, we go back outside and lay down on the trampoline. We hold hands as we look up at the pretty blue sky.
"I think my mom is getting worse," I say after it being silent for almost 20 minutes.
"She seemed pretty...spent," says Cole and I nod.
"I am starting to get worried. We have a plan but if she doesn't make it until I am 18-," I say drifting off.
"Is there anything I can do?" asks Cole.
"Don't be offended when I choose my mom over you all of the time. I will need to be with her," I say and Cole flips over onto his stomach and pulls me closer.
"Of course. I will do what I can to help," says Cole and I lean over and kiss him quickly. We talk for a little while longer until we are interupted by Carmen.
*7pm*
"Uh Charlie, there is someone here to see you," says Carmen and she looks confused.
"Who is it?" I ask.
"Says his name is Peter," says Carmen and my eyes widen and I think I might stop breathing.
"Who's Peter?" asks Cole.
"He works at the grocery store and I agreed to see a movie with him tonight," I say and Cole raises his eyebrows.
"Oh that Peter and what?" asks Cole.
"To be fair, we weren't dating yesterday," I say.
"I will be right back," says Cole and he rolls off of the trampoline and I watch him go. He comes back only a minute later with a smirk on his face.
"What did you do to him?" asks Carmen.
"Set him straight," says Cole and he gets back up on the trampoline.
"Well see you two later," says Carmen and she walks away slowly.
"Poor girl, I must confuse her," I say. We talk for a little while longer until Cole decides that he should probably head home.
*8:30pm*
"I had a great time Charlie," says Cole and I lean against his Jeep.
"Good, it would have been awkward if you had a horrible time," I say and he chuckles.
"I am busy all day tomorrow so I probably won't be able to talk to you until Monday," he says and I shrug.
"I understand," I say.
"See you then cutie," says Cole and he kisses my cheek before getting into his Jeep. I start walking back to my house and head upstairs. I should find something nice to wear to church tomorrow. I find my only dress and set it out and grab my heels. I set them on the floor under the hanging dress. I sit down on my bed and pull my knees to my chest. Some part of my wishes I was still six years old and free of worry or care. I tough it out and go look for Carmen. I find her laying on her bedroom floor playing games on the iPad.
