When the explosion happened in the bunker, I was thrown somewhere. And that's all I can remember. But my missing memory wasn't the important thing, it was my condition that was my priority. My body ached, there was a dull pain seeping through my body. My head hurt, almost to the point where I couldn't concentrate. My back, and legs ached, they felt bruised and broken. My shoulder needed to be popped back into it's socket. And the lights were so bright in the cell I was in, they made it look green. It felt like I was going to get UV radiation from the lights.
I stared forward at the two way mirror. I studied at my reflection. My hair was matted, with crusted blood still in it. My lip was busted. Bruises covered my body. I was going to be interrogated. I was trapped in an interrogation room back at the Triskleton. It would only be minutes before someone would come in.
I turned my head when the door unlocked and someone stepped through.
"Oh Ms. America," Rumlow cheered looking pleased to see me like this. He had a smug smile on his lips. He clapped his hands together, and the sound went ringing through my head. I turned my head back forward not bothering to look his way. Having him as my interrogator was a joke. They know I've been through worst. Why waste time?
"You don't know how long I've wanted to see you tied up and helpless before me," his innuendo didn't go unnoticed by me. I stayed silent like I was expected to. My eyes still on my reflection. I knew who was behind that mirror.
"Do you want to know why you're not dead yet?" Rumlow sneered lifting my head by my tangled hair. Sharp pain jolted down my body as he jerked me. My arms were cuffed together, the metal constraints covered my hands all the way past my wrists. My feet were chained to the metal chair. The same type of metal cuffed them there. It was clear I couldn't break out. I looked up at Rumlow seeing two or three of him before he came into focus.
"Because he wants to see me for himself." I answered Rumlow, my lips cracked and I could feel the dried blood on them. I didn't bother looking at Rumlow, he was just for show. The real man, behind that glass mirror was the real interrogator. He was who I was really talking to.
"I guess you got some brains in you Mrs. America." Rumlow mocked walking in front of me with his arms crossed. Behind him was the two sided mirror. It was supposed to be bullet proof. Behind there stood one Alexander Pierce. He wanted to see if I really did trick him.
"So, did you or did you not aid Captain Rogers against us?" I stayed silent staring at the two way mirror. I could hear Rumlow's thoughts and better yet I could hear Pierce's. The corners of my lips lifted into a smirk. Rumlow pulled his arm back and slapped me with all his might. God it stung. There was definitely a red mark, and that side of my face had gone numb. I couldn't have done anything anyway. I didn't want to give away my position just yet anyway.
I moved my head back to death stare Rumlow once again. I didn't wince, or show any sign of intimidation. I've been through worse. Rumlow was putting on a show, and I needed some time to figure out my next move.
"Anna you really could have been the most powerful person in the world." Rumlow baited me. Pierce had always thought I was power hungry. His words flowed out of Rumlow's mouth like a song. I wasn't talking to Rumlow, I was talking to Pierce.
"But you gave it all up for a man you supposedly love." Rumlow said in a tone of fake disappointment. He was close to my ear, crowding my space making me increasingly uncomfortable.
"There is no top. Not in this business." I spoke out, and surprise flashed in Rumlow's eyes for a second. Pierce was as equally invested behind the bullet proof glass. "You may tell people what to do, but in this job there will always be a gun to your head. Someone is always ready to pull that trigger. All we can do is what is right. And I did that."
