Coulson dropped me off at a small airport right outside St. Petersburg, Russia. I had contacted Steve and he was able to meet us by the tiny airstrip. When the plane landed I could see him standing there a few hundred feet away with shades and a baseball hat.
"Thanks Coulson. Keep in contact. Especially with HYDRA and the GH serum situation." I told him patting him on the back.
"Of course. Say hi, to Rogers for me." He replied with a half smile.
"Not coming down to meet him?" I asked surprised, I thought Coulson would jump off this plane to see Steve again.
"No, not this time. But give him my best." He answered shaking his head.
"Of course." I promised and he brought me in for a hug.
"Take care out there."
"You too." And with that I grabbed my bag and got off the plane. I was officially done with SHIELD. That part of my life was over. And as anxious as I was about having it gone, I was happy too. I was free. As I coasted towards Steve, I realized that maybe this was the moment I was waiting for. Maybe this was the moment in which I'd never have to separate myself from him again. Maybe from now on, it'd be us against the world. What a silly wish.
"Hey sweetheart," Steve greeted me at the airstrip. And if I liked the pet name, I'd never admit it. He looked handsome as ever, wearing that same old leather jacket and a baseball hat. He took off his sunglasses as I approached him.
"Hey Steve," I said with a grin, I dropped my bag at his feet and threw my arms up around his neck. He was surprised by my actions but embraced me all the same. He smiled down at me and I leaned up and kissed him hard, maybe a little too hard because I made his baseball cap fall off. But it felt too good to stop, so I didn't.
"Missed me?" Steve joked with his signature smirk and his eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, I did." I answered him truthfully which made him smile widely.
"I missed you too." He said kissing me so sweetly it made me melt into him.
"Let's go," I murmured smiling against his lips.
"Yeah," he agreed giving me quick peck before taking my bag and my hand. I picked up his baseball hat and placed it back on his head.
"Anything interesting happen while I was away?" I asked getting into a car Steve had. He got into the drivers seat and started the engine before he answered me.
"No, not really. We think we found a recent handler, and we think he lives around here."
"Oh perfect,"
"Anything interesting going on with Coulson?"
"Yeah, well that's complicated. You know I got Clint out of Dubai. I got about a dozen or so agents out of different missions. Then fished two out of the sea. Coulson had a HYDRA agent on his team. Fury and I met up and handed over our resources to Coulson. He's free to start SHIELD or not." I shifted in my seat facing Steve who was looking forward at the road.
"I know you're tired of SHIELD. But it's a new beginning. And it's not my responsibility. It's out of my hands. We need SHIELD still." He quickly glanced over at me. With just a glance I knew he understood. He placed a hand on my leg and squeezed a little. I put my hand on top of his.
