Max dropped down to the ground, feeling very upset. How could he have lost Neil? One of his very best friends! Gone! He could feel his distress rising, and he hated it. He was normally very good at stamping down every emotion except for anger and apathy. But the stress of getting a new body coupled with a missing friend and a gunshot was starting to make him lose it.
The other campers were searching for clues. Gwen and David were sniffing the ground, Ered was swimming around the lake, Spacekid, Dolf and Preston were flying above the camp and Harrison and Nerris had gone off to try and find QuarterMaster.
"I got something!" Gwen called. Max and Nikki bounded over. She pointed to paw prints leading into the forest. Before David could even get a word out, Nikki and Max had torn into the forest, following the foot prints. David barked in surprise, before he ran after them.
David ran through the woods, trying to catch up to the two campers. For children, they were surprisingly fast!
When he found them, they were frozen on the spot, staring at something. David slowly approached the kids, sensing that a fast approach would not be the best idea.
He gently walked up to them, trying to see what they were staring at. He had to suppress a growl at what he saw.On the ground was a broken bear trap, covered in blood. Next to it was a blood soaked bullet. Max was openly growling, and David gasped when he saw frost forming around Max's mouth, blue liquid dripping onto the grass and freezing it. Nikki sniffed at the blood. "He ran that way." she gestured to the left. "I don't know about Nurf though, his smell just disappeared." "He has gone towards the mountain."
The group whipped around and stared in shock at what they saw. A creature that they had not seen before stepped out of the undergrowth. His appearance may have changed, but everyone recognised that voice. "QuarterMaster? The fuck are you doing out here?" Max inquired. QuarterMaster gave Max a unamused stare. "I live out here child." he said monotonously.
Max's eyes raised slightly, but he said nothing. David stepped forward slightly. "QuarterMaster, you said Nurf was going towards the mountain, did you see where Neil went?" he asked, a hopeful and desperate look in his face. QuarterMaster nodded.
"The yellow one ran towards the valley in the ravine. If your going after him, i would hurry. He was bleeding pretty badly. And we are no longer alone here. Watch your backs." he finished with mysterious implications, backing away into the shadows.
Max's ears flattened against his head. He turned to Nikki, who was going pale. She faced him and mouthed "Daniel?". God he hoped not. Shaking his head he turned his attention to David. "Okay David, you're the nature nut, where the fuck is this ravine." he demanded. David frowned at his language, but motioned for them to follow him.
Neil inspected the cave that he had found. After he came to his senses, he realised that he had no idea where he was. It was a stroke of luck to find this cave, because a storm was brewing, and the pain in his leg had finally started to show itself again. He limped into the cave and jumped up onto one of the indents in the caves walls, slumping down and inspecting his leg. It was turned at a odd angle, most likely broken.
He sighed and contemplated how to go about cleaning it. After deciding that he didn't have enough energy to go and find a stream, he relented to his instincts and began licking himself.
Daniel padded back into the forest, blood soaking into his fur. Robert carried the last body over his shoulder, that science kids father. Since those 3 kids had given him so much trouble, he had decided to take his anger out on their parents. He had thought that it would have been difficult tracking them down , but once Robert had gotten ahold of the kids files when they were all blissfully ignorantly sleeping, it had been all too easy.
The bodies were now scattered throughout the surrounding area. It had been so much fun tearing into them. Up until Nikki's mother had kicked him in the eye. He had gotten her back. He licked his teeth, wiping the bits of organ off. They stopped at a riverbed. Robert and Daniel started digging, trying to hurry, as a storm seemed to be approaching.
After it was done, Daniel washed the blood of his fur, sighing in content as the sticky substance washed down stream. He raised his head and sniffed the air. His brow furrowed. 'i thought that i washed all the blood off. Why can i still smell some?'. Daniel rose up on his back legs and sniffed the air some more. The irony smell of blood was definitely there, but it came from somewhere else.
Daniel began tracking the smell as rain began to pour down. He tacked the smell to a area near a ravine, but the rain washed it away. He scowled, but turned around, failing to notice the shaking yellow dragon within the cave
