"What shall we call her?" Marie asked softly, gazing at the bright blue eyes of her baby cradled in her arms.

"Let's call her Ella," Julian who was perched on the edge of the bed leaned over to get a better view of  his beautiful baby who wrapped its fingers around her mom's.

They sat in silence while staring admirably at the baby. Her eyelids closed gently and soon she was fast asleep.

"She's beautiful." Julian caressed the baby's soft blonde hair and took his wife's hand in the other.

"Her eyes are just like yours, they're totally enchanting." Marie fixed her brown eyes in Julian's and sensually caressed the top of his hand.

Julian's eyes turned to a deeper shade of blue due to his sudden need. He leaned over and slowly brushed his lips on Marie's. Not satisfied, he scooted closer and properly trapped her lips in his. She wrapped a hand around his head, pulling him in to deepen the kiss.

Suddenly becoming aware of their baby, they reluctantly broke off the kiss.

"You owe me one." Julian shifted away from his wife and did not fail to notice the red tinge on Marie's cheeks.

A crash coming from outside startled them. Julian sat upright and looked out the window behind his wife.

"Let me go see what that was," He pushed himself from the bed but Marie's hand prevented him from moving forward.

"Be careful," She spoke with much worry, as if she had a premonition that something disastrous would happen.

He simply nodded and walked out though the door.

Marie all alone stared at her sleeping baby and smiled when she noted the many similarities between the baby and her husband. Fair hair, pinched nose, thick black brows and thin lips...

A strangled stream from outside filled her ears and she raised her hand to clutch her chest, panic welling up inside her.

She suddenly became worried about Julian. She held her baby and placed her feet on the floor hesitantly.

She took a deep breath and traced the source of the scream.

What she saw lying in the doorway nearly made her drop her baby. She held her baby closer and let out a piercing scream.

Her husband, Julian, the one who she promised the rest of her life to, was lifelessly lying on the floor.  A small pool of his blood surrounded his head and a gash on the side of his head caught her eyes.

The only man that completed her world was dead.

Dead.
