Evangeline

"Mom?" I asked when the phone was picked up. There was a pause yet I could hear shuffling on the background. I wiped the tears from my cheeks, "Mom, its me".

I heard a pained sob, "Evangeline?" she asked.

I stopped myself from sobbing. I nodded even if she couldn't see me, "Its me, mom" I repeated.

I wrapped my free arm around myself as I heard speaking on the background. "Evie!?" an all too familiar voice said.

I cried silently at their voices, "How are you?" I asked.

"No, how are you?" she asked.

I looked around at the room. I looked at the bed I was sitting on and then down at myself, "I'm fine" I said.

"Oh, honey" mom cried. "I tried. I really did. He doesn't want any money in exchange. I tried everything".

"I know, mom" I said hearing an echo on myself. Even then, I noticed I was on speaker. I could hear many people listening on the other line. "Thank you for trying".

"He hurt you, didn't he?" Grace asked.

I shut my eyes, tightly. "No. I'm fine. He only... warned me".

"Bullshit" Kyle growled from the other line.

I cleared my throat, "Enough about me. How is the pack?" I asked.

"Chaos" mom said. "Your father hasn't any idea of what to do next. We're still getting attacks, though not as many. We've been having packs turning against us for... for what your father did to you".

I bit my lip, "You're gonna need a new Alpha, mom, you know that. You're gonna need someone of blood to take over. See some cousins or uncles. And not just anyone, the pack will need to trust them too".

"You would've been a great Luna for us" Grace said.

I gulped, "You'll need to take rounds on watching the barriers too. The same pack warriors isn't good. They need rest too. Watch for any suspicious activity, mom".

Mom sobbed quietly, "You're stressing, Evangeline. Haven't you got enough over there?".

I stood, angered. "Like what, mom? Like knowing this pack isn't fond of me? That they don't respect me? That any chance they get, I'm humiliated? You want me to worry about that? Or the fact that Blake abuses me every damn night? No, mom. I'm not stressing about my old pack. I care for you all. I want to know what happens to you. In anything I can help. Now, what else is happening?".

.

Hours later, mom had filled me in what they were going through. The pack has been getting worse since I left. The pack worries of what my so called father will do next.

"Don't you have to go?" mom asked quietly after a long pause from anyone speaking.

I sighed, "No. Not yet" I said. I sat back down on the bed and smiled softly, "Tell me mom, has anyone found their... mates?".

I could hear her smile, "Well... a couple of your friends have news-".

"Evie, Kyle and I are mates!" Grace's voice shouted. It was filled with so many emotions that it brought tears to my eyes.

"Really?" I asked trying not to break down. "I'm so happy for both of you. How did you find out?".

Grace giggled, "Well... Kyle and I happened to shift the very same day and boom! I knew he was mine!".

I heard Kyle groan, "It didn't happen exactly that way" he said. "Yes, we shifted. But it was after all the pain and breaking hones that I smelt her. And of course, my wolf went crazy".

I laughed at their happiness. Tears flowed rapidly out of my eyes. And a thought struck me. I couldn't be jealous of my best friends!

Yet I was.

"I'm glad for you both" I said and laughed when a few other pack members hinted that they've practically memorized each other's mouths. "I love you all" I said.

They went awfully quiet and I knew they knew I was sad. It didn't take an expert to know. "Love you, Evie" Grace said.

"You're our family" Kyle continued. "We love you".

I forced a smile. "Thank you, Kyle, I love you too" I said.

"Evangeline" a voice growled, angrily.

I jumped up at the sound of Blake's voice. "Blake" I gasped, dropping the phone on the bed.
