Hints of the sun peeked from the dark sky and Kiera urged to horses to go faster. It was unusual, almost completely unheard, of a princess driving a carriage but they were desperate at the moment. The portal, that allowed them to travel to the outside world only opened from dusk till dawn. This was a tiny little thing that Kiera was not informed of till the very last moment. Along with the fact that, if the portal closed before they reached it, it would only open after two months. How nice!
"Princess! Princess! You need to slow down!" Christina shouted from inside the carriage.
Wind blew past Kiera's face and her hair covered her eyes as she drove the carriage. Paying no heed to Christina's words, she drove the carriage even faster.
"Calm down!" Kiera shouted. "Just a few minutes more till we reach!"
Forward they went, the dark brown horses galloping to their full potential as the princess commanding them prayed that they reached before the portal closed. The green fields turned into deserts of white sand that went into their eyes and ears, stinging them but they continued relentlessly.
At last, the wind reduced blowing as ferociously as it did before and their hair stopped flying wildly in all directions.
"Have we reached, princess?" Christina asked weakly, from inside the carriage.
"It seems so," Kiera replied, rubbing her eyes to take out the sand.
The portal which was supposed to lead them to the outside world was right in front of them and the appearance of it shocked Kiera beyond belief.
It was a dark beige, wooden door located right in the middle of the the desert. There seemed nothing special about it, except the fact that it was the only other thing that could be seen standing straight in the desert that stretched a couple hundreds of miles.
The door flickered and that shook Kiera out of her thoughts.
"Quick, Christina!" She called out. "The portal is closing." She said, as she ran towards the portal and opened it. Without waiting for Christina, she stepped into it.
A powerful force sucked her in and before she could say a word, she found herself spinning round and round. Her head felt dizzy and she could feel herself screaming yet almost no voice could be heard.
Was this death? If so, it was an extremely horrible way to die. Kiera could not believe that she had actually thought that the portal would bring her to the outside world. It was foolish of her too even think such a thing. Now, she was going to die in this strong force that seemed embrace the joy of spinning round and round.
"Ahhhhhh!" Muffled voices similar to hers sounded and she blurrily looked at a figure that was getting nearer and nearer to her. The spinning continued and Kiera's eyes felt like shutting.
All of a sudden, she bumped into something and everything went black.
