"Hey, Derek!" Violet said as she made her way down the spiral staircase, smiling at her best friend and the girl beside him.
"It's been so long since you came home. Mom missed you so much," Violet continued, making Phillipa agree with her.
"Yes, Derek. You should come more often. It's always a pleasure to have you here," she said, before taking in a deep breath, "I think Anna is going to give us burnt lunch today because I came out out of the kitchen for five minutes. You, adults, talk what you need to. I'll call you when lunch is ready," she offered.
"Thank you, mom," Violet said, before going to Kiera.
"You look really familiar. I feel like I've met you before," she said, tapping her cheek.
Kiera smiled as Derek introduced her. "Violet, this is Kiera. We actually came here to talk to you about something that she–" he started, before Violet exclaimed loudly.
"Kiera! You are the girl from the beach!"
Kiera shyly nodded, wincing as she remembered that incident. For some reason, though, she was glad that she already told Violet everything. At least, she wouldn't have to repeat it again.
"I am," she said softly.
"Violet, we need to help her," Derek said, making Violet scoff at him.
"Help her? You told me that she must've been lying yesterday. And now, you are saying that we should help her?" Violet said, glaring at him. She was not happy that Derek was being a hypocrite.
"You thought I was lying?" Kiera asked in disbelief.
Derek let out a deep breath before answering, "It was before I met you Kiera. And, Violet, you don't need to overreact. It's just a small thing. I'm sorry for telling you yesterday that she must be lying. Next time, I won't assume or say anything without knowing the entire story, okay?"
Violet grinned, startling Kiera at the complete change from her fuming face. "Much better. Kiera, or should I call you Princess Kiera, how can I help?"
Kiera blinked. "You may call me Kiera," she said, still quite surprised with Violet.
"Okay dokey. So, Kiera, what am I supposed to do?" Violet said, her eyes bright with mischief.
"Um, Violet, you know why Kiera came here, right?" Derek asked.
"Of course, she needs a husband!" Violet replied, before her eyes widened. "Oh, I know what you want me to do. You want me to find you a husband, right?" she asked, making both Kiera and Derek nod.
"I can definitely do that. Matchmaking is my job! I'm like the no,1 matchmaker around here," Violet boasted, making Derek shake his head at her.
"Really, Violet? No.1? You mean, number zero. You have only done matchmaking for two couples till now and they both broke up within a year," Derek said, making Violet gasp in anger.
"How dare you? That wasn't my problem. I thought they would suit very well. And Sam and Amy did come back together after a while," Violet said proudly.
"Because you weren't there to interfere in their love life anymore," Derek answered, smirking.
"Derek! Stop being mean!" Violet whined, stomping her foot on the floor.
Kiera put a hand on Violet's shoulder. "It's alright. People go through lots of things in their life. It's not your fault that things did not go according to what you wanted for those people," she said, making Violet smile.
"You see, Derek! I'll make sure Kiera snags the best guy in town! Then, I'll show you who is the number one matchmaker here," Violet challenged him with narrowed eyes.
Derek smirked. "I'll like to see you try."
Violet glared at him. "Fine!"
As Violet made calls to a few of her friends (apparently, she needed to start finding a husband for Kiera immediately so that she could prove that she really was the best matchmaker in town faster), Kiera and Derek roamed around her house that was almost half of the palace Kiera lived in.
It was impressive to see such a big house without maids bustling through corridors and guests seated in all the countless living rooms. Kiera wondered if she could ever have such a life where she could live in a big house and have all the comforts of the palace yet have a peaceful life.
One, where she wasn't bombarded with snakes, trying to figure out how they could overthrow her. One, where every thing she did did not get printed on the newspaper. One, where she was just Kiera, not Princess Kiera Evelyn Amelia of Atlantis, soon to be crowned Queen of Atlantis.
"Brilliant!" Violet said, joining them. "I just got you a date, Kiera!"
"A date?" Kiera asked, confused.
"Look, just meet up with him, see of you like him. If you do, great! If not..." she paused for a second before continuing, "Well, we'll figure that out!"
"Okay," Kiera said hesitantly, trying to figure out what exactly did she sign up for.
A date, huh? Let's see how this goes. It can't be too bad, can it? she thought.
But when had things ever gone the way her thoughts had imagined them to?
