"Oww!" Kiera groaned loudly as she shakily pressed her hand to her head. She felt as though leads were attached to her eyelids and she did not possess the strength to open her eyes. What had happened to her?
A similar groan sounded beside her and Kiera's eyebrows furrowed, the simple action causing a wave of dizziness to spread over her head. Who was that?
Slowly, the memories came back to her. Her mother's death. Her aunt threatening all the males in the kingdom from marrying her. The council wanting her to overcome the 'challenge'. Christina's brilliant plan of going to the outside world. The portal in the middle of the desert. The powerful force in it. Hitting her head and blacking out.
Kiera had no patience to remember what had happened after that. All she wanted to know was if she was dead. It would be a great disappointment if she was. She would not be able to fulfill her mother's last wish and she was not sure if she would be even able to think of her aunt taking the throne now that she was gone.
Her mother! Kiera smiled as she slowly sat up. If she was dead, at least she could meet her mother again. She had missed her mother so much over the past six months. It would be a dream if she could see her again. Even if it was just for a couple of seconds.
Maybe she could even meet her father if she was lucky. Kiera did not remember exactly how her father looked like. She could vaguely remember a sharp nose and thin lips but everything else was a blur in her mind. However, despite her not being able to remember much at that moment, she was sure she would recognise him when he came in front of her.
Another groan could be heard from beside her and Kiera used the utmost will in her to open her eyes. Unsurprisingly, it was Christina who was laying in the sand beside her. She was holding her head and trying to sit up, as Kiera herself had done a few moments ago.
Once she opened her eyes, Christina found herself looking all around her in panic until her eyes landed on Kiera.
"Princess?" she said worriedly.
"Calm down, Christina. We are safe," Kiera said, before muttering, "although I am not sure if we are alive or not."
Clearly, Christina caught her muttering because she screamed, "What!!"
Kiera winced as another bout of dizziness hit her. "Would you please calm down, Christina?" she requested.
Christina took in a deep breath to calm herself before she talked once more, "What do you mean, Princess? We are dead?" she asked cautiously."I don't know," Kiera said vaguely, "you want to get up and explore the area?" she asked curiously, looking around her.
"I am not sure. My head hurts, Princess," Christina replied.
"Mine too," Kiera said. She laid her head once more on the sand.
"Let's just catch some rest, shall we? When we wake up tomorrow, we'll figure everything out. Alright?" Kiera said.
"Yes, Princess. Goodnight, Princess," Christina said as she laid on her head on the sand as well.
"Goodnight, Christina," Kiera said and they both drifted into a land of dreams.
