Kiera felt fear grow in her chest as she ran onto the road but the safety and survival of the man in front of her, who had no idea of the danger in front of him, made her feet move faster.
She willed her feet to take longer strides and her eyes flitted towards the object that was rushing down the road. If she did not push him away in time, it was evident he would die. He was not running as fast as Kiera was, which made it more easier for him to be hit and that was something Kiera was not going to allow to happen.
Kiera pushed her feet faster and grabbed the hand of the man once she caught up with him. Pushing him, and herself, towards the pavement on the other side of the road, she could barely breathe as the object whizzed right past them, only a few inches away.
Turning to the man as she panted heavily, Kiera glared. She let her lips reduce to a thin line and words exploded out of her mouth.
"Are you mad?" she shouted loudly. The crowd that had formed around them due to Kiera and the man's unexpected stunt grew even bigger.
The man tried to smile weakly. "Well, I do realise that I wasn't exactly thinking straight when I ran but I can tell you that I am definitely not mad," he said and Kiera scowled.
"Well, I must say that you are. Did you even think of what could have happened if that thing had hit you? You might have been killed!" Kiera said angrily.
The traffic man turned green once more and Christina rushed to her side.
"Thing? It's a car. Plus, I told you that I wasn't thinking straight," the man said. "Anyways though, thank you for saving my life. You didn't have to but you did. I'd do anything to pay you back for risking your life to save mine," he said, glancing at the tall building near them a few times.
He stood up, brushing his pants and wincing as the scratches on his hand, that were caused by him falling on the edge of the pavement, got stretched.
"Thank you once more," he said, smiling gratefully towards Kiera, who was still sitting on the pavement. "I would have done more to repay you, but I need to be somewhere. My best friend is going to risk her life and I need to save her. Sorry about all of this," he said, gesturing to their surroundings, "and thank you again."
As soon as those words came out from his mouth, he ran off towards the building. Kiera watched him turn back to look at her once more, checking if she was alright, before entering the building. She looked at the uneven road, letting a finger trace on it as two questions raced through her head.
The first one seemed logical, something everyone would think if they did something they have never done, or thought of doing, before.
The second one, however, made her want to slap herself. It was the most stupid question to think of with all the drama going on in her life. Regardless of that, it still sounded constantly in her head.
What was his name?
So, I am reading this book and it is super amazing. It's called 'The Otherworlders' by paulapdx. It is written in a sort of way to make it seem like it is a TV show and that makes the mystery and drama and action and all of that so much more intense. It deserves much more recognition than it has, so you all should definitely read it. It is a really good read.
How did you like this chapter though?
