Too good to be true

I have to admit that I was shocked that she would actually kiss the man who was responsible for her kidnapping. I mean, Damien had admitted everything to her, even the fact of why I was sent to her. Why would she kiss me?

"William, get away from her!" Kevin shouted at me.

I pushed her away enough to see why he shouted that. Juliet held a knife that she was about to end my life with. My heart began to ache as the thought of everyone I cared about tried to kill me.

Juliet dropped the knife as Alicia and Kevin pulled her away from me. She began to shake as if she was finally aware of what she was about to do.

She looked over at me with frightened eyes as she realized what she was about to do. "I can explain everything to you. Please, just give me a chance to explain this to you!" Juliet pleaded.

I picked up the knife and looked at it. The tip of the knife looked perfectly sharp, ready to spill blood. Not able to look at her, I said "you were going to murder me here. How can you possibly explain this to me or my comrades?"

"I don't want you to get involved anymore in your father's experiments! He wants to use you as a heart of his new weapon," she said as tears began to fall. "He needs you in order to power the Leviathan."

I shook my head no before tossing the weapon in my hand to the ground. "I don't believe you. Juliet Peterson, you attempted to murder an military soldier. This is in no matter acceptable in the United States."

She nodded. "I had a good reason to my actions. I didn't want to see you suffer the cruel fate your father has in store for you. Please, believe me!"

"Enough! I have had hundreds of people try to take my life already, and this is no different," I told her as they pulled her farther away from me. "I'll report this to General Kingston, myself."

Alicia looked over at me as Kevin began to restrain Juliet. "You already know what your grandfather would do to her. Not only that, but you sound as if you had your heart broken. I just wanted to make sure you are alright."

"I'm fine. It's not a problem," I told her as I began to walk away from her. "Oh, Alicia, my heart can never become broken. It's unprofessional to loose it in a mission."

I could feel everyone look after me as I walked up to the pilot's quarters. I didn't want to come out until we finally landed back at the base. Like always, General Kingston was waiting, standing clear of the copter until it had completely landed, to see how well I handled this mission. As the other soldiers helped the children exit, I waited in the back with Juliet and her father.

"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to please exit through the door. Your daughter is under arrest for the attempt of killing a soldier," Kevin told Mr. Peterson. When he denied, Kevin asked him again, this time literally dragging him out.

"William, please. I'm not a killer," she pleaded. "I wouldn't kill anyone if I didn't have to. Don't lock me away."

I ignored her and helped her off. Grandfather walked over, surprised to see her restrained.

"Sergent William Ashton, what's going on here?" he asked me.

I showed my respect for him before saying "Sir, this girl had tried to kill me, sir!"

Grandfather turned to her. "Young lady, you should know that is a crime worth over twenty five years of jail."

She shook her head no. "Please sir, I can explain everything to you. Please."

"I will give you a chance to explain yourself, but for now, William, you have a visitor," Grandfather said as he turned his attention to me. "She claims to be one of your old friends. I believe her name is Janet."

I nodded, "thank you, sir. I shall speak to her after I place this girl under surveillance." He nodded before leading the way. We untied her wrists and locked Juliet into the room I was once locked in. General Kingston gestured for me to turn around, and as I did, I realized why.

Janet stood there with a smile on her face. Her hair was cut short up to her shoulders, as her scars visibly showed on her bare legs. Her white skirt ended just above her knees as her long sleeved grey blouse hid the remainder scars.

With a little wave, she said "hi Will. How have you been?"
