Trust is hard to regain

"Juliet, please. I am not working with this man. You have to believe me that I'm here to help you!" I told her. She stayed away from me as she shook her head.

"How do I know you're telling the truth?" she asked me. I have never met a person so cautious like her before.

Damien walked back to the front of the helicopter, leaving us alone to talk. No matter what I said, he knew he had won.

I sighed, "I don't plan for you to understand what I am. I just want you to be able to trust me that I'll return you home safely. After that, I promise you won't see me again."

She nodded. "Fine, but if you're one of them, I'll kill you myself."

"Understood. Now, let me think," I told her. We were left unbounded in a helicopter with only two parachutes by the pilot's seat. If I can successfully distract them long enough for her to grab at least one of the parachutes, maybe we could escape through the door. Father won't hesitate to fire his weapon at me if we do that. Maybe if he believes that I had never betrayed him, that everything I've done was just to gain the military's trust, he may allow me to get close enough to take one. "I got a plan." I whispered to her before standing up and limping over to Father.

"Have I done well, father? I managed to gain the military's trust, so they could send me to your informant. It was difficult to work undercover, but was I successful?" I asked him.

He gave me a suspicious look. "This whole time you were working undercover? Double crossing the American military could lead you into a lot of trouble, and yet you return to my side?"

I nodded and saluted him, "I would never double cross you. You're the one I fought side by side with for so many years."

He smiled a bit before saluting back at me. "You're a clever boy, William. I should've never doubted that my son would betray my trust." I looked back at Juliet, who gave a look of surprise at me. "But, how do I know that you could be trusted. After all, I raised you to do whatever is necessary to get yourself out of a difficult situation."

"Father, you know you could trust me. I am and will always be your son. You once said that, if you recall," I told him.

He seemed to have doubts in my words. He knew that I had never lied to him before, so he nodded and decided to give me a chance to redeem myself. "Alright, but I'll be keeping an eye on you." He gestured for me to have a seat as he pulled out a first aid kit. "Let me fix you up, son."

I sat down and allowed him to clean my wounds. I felt like a child once again, coming home from a battle and unsure how to clean and wrap my wounds properly. Father must have remembered that moment as well because he tried his best not to cause me anymore pain. I sucked in air as he poured disinfectant over minor injuries.

"You must be more careful when picking fights. You're going to get yourself killed one of these days," was the last thing he said before putting away the first aid kit.

I looked over at Juliet as I said, "I'm going to fight my hardest until I loose my life. That's what I was raised to do." Father helped me up before walking back to the pilot. I followed him and grabbed a parachute while he wasn't looking. I quickly toss it to Juliet so she could hide it before father notices what I was doing. I walked back over to Juliet and put it on.

"We have to do this quickly. I'm going to open the door and whatever you do, do not let go of me," I whispered to her. She nodded and stood up. I grabbed a fire extinguisher and hit the back of father's head before hitting the pilot. I pushed the door open and pulled Juliet close to me. Holding her tightly in my arms, we fell out of the copter rapidly. Juliet wrapped her arms tighter around my neck as I opened the parachute.

"Oh my gosh, we're so high," she told me as she looked down.

I smirked, "are you afraid of heights? Or are you afraid of falling?"

"Both," she said as she hid her face into my chest and closed her eyes.

I couldn't help but laugh as I remembered how Mason was the first time we dealt with parachutes. He was so afraid of jumping that he wouldn't go alone. Janet had to hold his hand and help him correctly put on the parachute. He was so sure that he was going to die before he reaches the ground.

"Don't worry. I will not let you fall," I told her comfortingly. We floated down for about five or ten minutes before finally reaching the ground. We fell to the ground with her above me. "I told you I wouldn't let go."

She nodded, blushing a bit, before climbing off of me. She offered me a hand and I took it. She helped me stand up and watched as I took off the parachute.

"Hey, will you tell me now what's going on? We were just attacked by bad guys, so I want the truth," she told me. I nodded before looking up. The helicopter was loosing altitude and fast.

"I'll you everything, but not here. That copter is going to crash!" I told her. I grabbed her hand and began to run. We ran about half a mile before we heard a loud crash. The trees surrounding the crash were spreading fire quickly. We continued to run until I was sure that we weren't in any danger.
