Chapter 1

Kathryn’s Point of View

I grew up having everything I want, with just a snap of my finger I can get whatever I want because we have money. But there's one thing money cannot buy, and that is family. 

Family is the people you love unconditionally; they are the ones who will never judge you, people who will always accept you.

All my life, my mother was there for me, she never failed to give me everything and now she's gone, and the most painful thing is she's gone because she wanted me to live a normal life, a life where I won't have to be married to someone I don't love. 

Gusto niyang ma-experience ko ma-in love pero what's the use of that kung wala naman siya sa tabi ko? Aanuhin ko pa ang love kung wala siya? 

Tumayo ako sa kama, new room, new house, new life. 

Binuksan ko yung double door para makapunta sa veranda, napakatahimik. 

Kamusta na kaya si mommy? Nakita na kaya niya si daddy sa Heaven? I don’t know my dad but I assume his in Heaven already.

Napatigil ako sa pagmumuni muni nang may kumatok, siguro si Mr. Paul, yung assistant ni mommy. Bakit kaya hinayaan lang niya si mommy? 

Pumunta na ulit ako sa loob ng kwarto ko, nakita ko naman siya may dala dalang brown envelope. 

"What's that?" tanong ko sa kanya.

Tinignan niya yung brown envelope. "Ah, this? Milady eto yung birth certificate, passport, cards, diploma, and your course catalog for college." sagot niya. 

Diba, well planned talaga ang pagkamatay ko, may bagong pangalan na agad. I haven't asked him about what would happen to the company and sa funeral, kahapon lang kasi yung accident. 

Inabot niya sa akin yung brown envelope, kinuha ko yun. "What happens next?" tanong ko habang binubuksan ang envelope.

Ayun na talaga ang pangalan ko starting today. 

"Naayos ko na po yung funeral niyo ni madam, mamaya po yung start. And for the company, your fiancé’s family is taking over. Pero you won't be poor milady, madam had money and shares transferred to Kathryn Park." he explained. 

"Ok." ayun nalang ang nasabi ko, alam ko na bawal akong pumunta sa funeral dahil patay na nga ako diba? 

Wala ng Leila Kathryn Rutherford, only Kathryn Park 

"Sa Monday na po ang start ng class niyo sa St. John Academy. Tignan niyo nalang po milady ang course catalog niyo, at starting today, you live your own, you can call me milday kung may problema, I'll be here." sabi ni Mr. Paul. 

So is this it? The normal life? 

May kinuha si Mr. Paul sa bulsa niya. "I believe marunong ka na mag drive milady so here is your key." he said at inabot sa akin

No more chauffeurs. No more maids. No more mommy. 

Umalis na din si Mr. Paul at tuluyan na akong naging magisa. 

Eto ang bago kong buhay, mag-isa. 

I'm alone now.
