"Stop!" she giggled, "Ronnie stop it! Please pl-" Donna's voice was cut off by another bout of giggles as she tried desperately to escape the arms of this man who was quite literally holding her hostage.

As he lifted her in the air and spun her round and round he joined in her laughter because he could not imagine ever being as happy as he was right this moment. The meadow was a gorgeous piece of God's green earth and the atmosphere there was surreal. When he was there he could forget everything except the intense love he felt for her. Almost.

Click.

The sound of a camera clicking served to remind him they were not alone and that if anyone ever found out about them, it would spell trouble for the two of them. He hastily put her down and marched angrily towards Benji, Donna's brother, the only other person who knew about their secret affair.

"What the hell, Benji?" he snarled, "you know if that picture ever gets out-" he was so enraged he had to take a deep breath  before finishing his sentence, "If it gets out my life is ruined!"

With that Ronald tore the camera away from him but before he could remove the film containing their picture, Donna ran up to him and shoved his left shoulder.

"Who the hell do you think you are Mannings?" she screamed, "Honestly. Couldn't you just, for one day not think about yourself. Your life would be ruined? What about mine?"

Benji stepped between them trying to diffuse the situation, knowing just how volatile their relationship was, the way it had always been.

"It's just a picture," he soothed, "C'mon Dollie, lets just get back to enjoying our holiday here. It's not every day we come to America, lets just-"

"No Benjamin. I can't go back to that." she cried, "Don't you see? This is how it will always be."I will always be a second class citizen to him! Someone he's too ashamed to be seen with."

Her words were like a bucket of ice cold water on Ron, who's temper had always been too quick to rise. But Donna was usually mild mannered even in the most trying of situations. Yes they argued often, but he'd never seen her cry. Seeing her tears he felt as though he had triggered something that would change their lives forever.

"Baby, come on, you know I love you."

Later, when he went back on the events of that day, he would wish he had just apologised, that he had just said 'I love you' in words as plain as that. But how could he have known? He was too young and too stupid.
