"Just say whatever the hell you want to say and leave me alone."
"Fine by me Ava," she leaned against the wall of the building, "lets start with that lovely boyfriend of yours shall we?"
"Derrick?"
Devin's arm, which had been around her shoulders, stiffened at what he assumed was her admitting that she did in fact have a boyfriend.
"Whatever boyfriend she may have had before coming here, it's very clearly over." He gritted out.
"He's my ex." She said for his benefit with a roll of her eyes. "Do I even want to know how you know about him?"
"I had some people do deep internet diving on you and whilst nothing popped up from you, he had some pictures of the two of you on his Instagram."
"Wooow," Ava rolled her eyes, "as fascinating as your non-reveal was, I've got a million things that I would find more interesting than continuing this conversation, like gouging my eye sockets and all that."
With that I shrugged and made to walk away after sharing a look with Devin and holding his hand. If that make-out session had proven anything, it was that whatever it was that was going on between them, she wanted more of it.
"I wonder what a private investigator would find out Ava, because I know you're hiding something."
Her hand stiffened in Devin's grip momentarily and she was sure he noticed it. How exactly did one tell somebody that most of everything they had told them was a lie but that they themselves weren't liars.
Once they were far enough away from Merrissa Devin stopped her and stood in front of her. "So that guy is your ex, right?"
"Yeah, he is." The look he gave her now was hard to read as he scanned her face for something, she always gave as good as she got, so eve though she was sure she already knew the answer, she asked, "and Merry hoe's yours, right?"
He gave an uncomfortable grunt of acquiescence.
"We all make mistakes," he shrugged, "but enough about the past, I'd like to focus on the future personally." Devin moved his face closer to hers, "like your current boyfriend."
She was temporarily confused before it sunk in what he was saying. Her emotions were all over the place as she felt a buzz of excitement staring into his eyes.
"Current?"
"Ye-" she cut him off with a kiss that ended too soon as she was aware that they were very close to the bleachers.
"Okay." She threw at him as she skipped the rest of the way to the class she was supposed to be watching. Leaving him staring after her with a ridiculous grin on his face and an unsure mind.

"So you guys are together together?"
"I guess so," Ava took a bite of her lunch bar as she sat in the common room later that evening, "oh, and I can't believe I have to say this but if any private investigator-looking guys come by asking questions about me please don't say anything."
"Merry-ho, the gift that keeps on giving."
The tinkling of Kim's laughter made her feel better about the issue with her roommate who was currently banging her brother in their room.
