When I said the Lodge family was nothing but hatred and lies, I meant it

When I said the Lodge family was nothing but hatred and lies, I meant it.

Since my father had returned, Hermione Lodge found herself queen of the court all over again. Her once kind and welcoming exterior had worn away to reveal a cold, prissy bitch. When we lived in New York, Mom wasn't this mean. Granted, a lot had happened since the move but nothing would ever change her this much.

I was sitting on the couch with my laptop on my thighs. With Jughead transferring to Southside High soon, Betty was trying to get me in the swing of editing for the Blue and Gold so I could take over. As sad as I was that Jughead was leaving Riverdale High, maybe him going to the Southside would help figure out this mystery a bit faster. It's an all new set of people to interrogate over there.

"Oh, I can take that in to Daddy. I want to ask him something, anyway." Veronica's voice sounded through the room. I looked up to see her walk towards Mom, who was holding a teacup.

Mom pulled the cup away from my sister. "Uh, your father and I have business to discuss and you know the rules about his study."

I looked over at her and pursed my lips. "Mom, those were the old rules.

"Which still apply." Mom gave me a pointed glare.

I sat back into the cushions, a chuckle escaping my mouth. "Transparency my ass."

At that moment, the door to Daddy's study cracked open. He walked out, eyes landing on the three of us. "I thought I heard my three palomitas out here, chirping."

Veronica and Mom twisted to face him, Mom letting out a sigh as she did. She held the teacup out to my father.

"Is that my café con leche?" He reached forward and grabbed it before thanking Mom.

"Daddy," Veronica said as she stepped up. "Tonight's the season premiere of the Matchlerette and I would love to have my friends over to watch."

My father's head tilted at the question. "Who, exactly, are these friends?"

"Inner circle only," Ronnie assured. Dad didn't seem convinced. "You can watch with us! They're dying to meet you."

"Of course they're welcome to come over, mija." Dad pulled Veronica in for a hug as she thanked him.

My sister made her way out of the room as I turned back to my laptop. This article barely had any errors, with Betty being a perfectionist and all. I was just getting back into my editing zone when someone cleared their throat. Looking up, my eyes met my parents'. Both were facing me and I could tell by their stances that I should've run when I had the chance.

"What?" I asked.

Dad sighed, "We're not just going to neglect the comment you made last night, mija. That's not how this is going to work."
