Confidence was always a department I lacked in. With the mess of my childhood, it was hard to believe I was worth much growing up. That's a different kind of confidence than I needed right now. I needed confidence to go up against someone, namely, Hiram Lodge.

Veronica and Mom were the only people visible when I walked in the Pembrooke. I let my muscles relax, having been tense the whole way up. I closed the door gently, throwing my bag and the box of stuff from the B&G office down.

"Ooh-la-la!" Ronnie stepped around the table to look at the gift sitting on it. "Is that for me?"

"It is," Mom trailed off before continuing, "It's a confirmation gift from the St. Clairs, of all people."

Suddenly disgusted by the gift, Ronnie pushed it away. "Why would they think they have the right to do that after everything that went down between us?"

Mom sighed, looking up at my sister. "It's what families in our business do. Even when we're at war, we give gifts. To show respect. Or in this case, to try and make amends."

Veronica was obviously not having it. "Well, whatever it is, feel free to burn or regift it." She turned to walk towards the door, finally realizing I was in the room. She opened her mouth to greet me but Mom interrupted.

"Veronica," She called out, setting her tea on the table. "Simone St. Clair called to follow up on this gift. She said that Archie paid Nick an unfriendly visit. Is that true?"

Based off her change in position, it was definitely true. Ronnie hadn't told me anything about what happened, not that she had to, but I would appreciate being in the loop every now and then. As she tried to stammer up an excuse, I decided to save her from her pain.

"Where's Daddy?"

Mom turned around in her chair to face me, a little surprised by my appearance. "In his study, why? Something wrong?"

I bit my lip. "Kind of. Can I talk to him?"

Mom waved her hand towards the double doors, giving me the go-ahead. I nodded and began walking without giving them an explanation. I knocked on the door, waiting to hear Daddy's welcome before pushing the door open.

"Princesa." Daddy folded his hands on his desk as I closed the door softly behind me. "What brings you in here?"

I sighed, tossing a paper on his desk as I sat down in the chair in front of him. "I got suspended from the school paper today. Because of a request by you to Mr. Sowerberry about taking legal action."

His eyes scanned the paper that basically stated my writing suspension and the reasoning behind it. "Well, I'll make a call to Weatherbee about this and get you cleared. You had nothing to do with it and-"

"No," I interrupted, taking a deep breath. "Daddy, I proofread Jughead's entire article. And I don't want special treatment just because I'm your daughter. That's not fair on my friends. Just...why?"
