Deals Should Not Be Broken, Unicorn.
“Dad?” I could feel my breathing get shorter and my anger increased as I saw him close to mom. I immediately squared my broad shoulders and glared at him.
“You actually have the nerve to come back.” I almost growled at the man that apparently was my father. He frowned and my mother walked towards me. I grabbed her and put her right behind me so he wouldn’t hurt her, but the thing was that he could not hurt her more than he already had, he left her to fend for herself and her two boys. She had to work three jobs and they were not just waitressing and cleaning tables…
“You need to leave.” I glared daggers at him and pushed Jaden closer to me. My mom tried to speak, but I cut her off.
“Leave.”
“Son, I know I left and I’m sorry, but I wasn’t ready for family at that time – I was young and I needed to go out in the world. My buddies kept nagging me about the downsides of marriage and how their lives were ruined. I was stupid to think like that and run away like a coward.” My anger increased even more as I heard his explanation. That’s bullshit.
“First of all, don’t call me that and second of all, that’s bullshit that you’re spilling!” I yelled and Jaden hugged me tighter around the waist.
“Derek!” She shouldn’t be shocked at my choice of language, but she was.
“He left you mom, like a coward! He left us, Jaden cannot even remember him!” I picked Jaden up and walked out the door with my mom yelling after me.
I jumped into my car and put Jaden in the passenger seat, I buckled his seat-belt. “Dee?” I started the engine and pulled out of the driveway, then glanced up at my mom and “dad” in the doorway. Mom looked remorseful and he looked ashamed, suits him right.
“Yeah Agent Jade?” I saw him smile and then heard him giggle, making me smile too. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and steered the wheel by supporting it on my knee. I could feel Jaden stare on the wheel with an expression of fear on his face.
I dialed the number that I knew by heart and put it to my ear as I waited to hear his voice.
“Hey.”
“Hey Dragon.” I smirked as I imagined him to be lying on his with his computer on his stomach, waiting for me to call him and say goodnight.
“Is it okay if Jaden and I come over?” I asked and as usual I knew he’d say yes. He couldn’t resist saying yes to me, I could always tell.
“Yeah, sure babe.” I suddenly caught on to what he said. He called me babe. God that actually sounded hot from his lips.
“You called me babe.”
“Dee, mom calls us that all the time?” Jaden told me and I chuckled.
“I know but it means something else this time.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s something you say to someone you like or to someone you love.” I told him.
“Look at you trying to be wise.” I heard Brad tease through the phone and I chuckled.
“I am naturally wise babe; sometimes I just act stupid to make you feel smart. That’s what good boyfriends do.” I smirked as I heard him chuckle and Jaden smiled a little to me.
“Can I meet your girlfriend Dee?” He suddenly asked me and I froze. He wanted to meet my girlfriend, who was a guy, so boyfriend it is. I was totally caught off guard and I didn’t know what to say; should I tell him that a guy and a guy can like each other, just as well as a girl and a boy could? I didn’t want him to be a homophobe, or be teased because of gayness. Is there another word for that?
