(Killian's POV)
It's been one week since Emma and I enrolled in Whalestown High and it's not so bad. We've bonded quite a bit with Wayne, Emily and Laura. They, as promised, have continued to show us the ins and outs of the school. We've been made aware of the popular groups and kept our distance from them, not wanting to get into trouble and such. Emma and I have a total of 3 classes together which is great. But that also means we don't have five classes together which is a huge bummer.

Speaking of which, I've just arrived at second period--Math--to see Emma waving me over to her. I have not been able to confess my feelings to her yet. Every time I try to, I'm either interrupted or I get too nervous and I wimp out. I've been trying to look for any signs that she like me back but I still can't tell if she only sees me as a good friend or more.

I sit beside her and she whispers, "Mr. Thomas is totally hungover." There sits our math teacher at his desk, rubbing his temples and refusing to take off his sunglasses. I smile with amusement.

"Well he sure had some fun last night," I added.

"At his age? I doubt it. He probably just sat at home and got wasted watching some lame oldies movie," Emma predicts. Even though we've only had two classes with the man, we can already tell that he's a mean old grouch. He's not too old, but he acts like he's still young. And when I say young I mean like late twenties even though he's probably closer to twice that. It's rather sad if you think about it. But he's still always yelling at us and complaining about how the generations are going downhill.

"That's as good a guess as any, I'd say." The bell rings and the teacher groans before standing up and writing something on the board. He yells at the class to shut up and then starts up a lesson, sometimes mumbling complaints under his breath. His lesson is over about halfway through the class and then he tells us to work on our own in silence while he sat with his head against the desk, his arms blocking out the world.

That doesn't stop other students from whispering but if it got too loud he would yell or sometimes throw something. He never hit anyone but it still shut the class up. Emma and I were texting each other throughout the class, not wanting to get caught talking. We were silently laughing while trying to do some work.

After class, once Emma and I left the room, we both burst out laughing. We just couldn't keep it in much longer. Over text we had been discussing other scenarios on how Mr. Thomas got so drunk and some theories were absolutely amazing in the most ridiculous way. We also texted random things and all while trying not to laugh like we just did.

"Who throws his own shoe at a student?" Emma asks while laughing.

"Maybe he wanted to punish them with the smell," I say and she laughs even harder. Once we both catch our breaths, the bell rings.

"Off to lunch we go!" Emma says and takes my hand, pulling me forward. I tried to ignore the electricity I felt when she took my hand. Lunch was fun as always and I could see the three friends glancing between Emma and I every once and a while and I wished they would be more discreet on their thoughts.

After school, Emma and I part ways as we both head off to work. Working at the docks this past week has been great. Of course, I don't work every day, only about every other day, if even that much. But it's still good fun. The other men don't mind me being younger and treat me as if I were their age. There is another lad who is around my age whom I usually work with. His name is Josh and he graduated from Whalestown high last year and is taking a gap year when it comes to college.

"After the holidays, I should have enough money to travel to the parts of the world I've always wanted to. Then I'll return and go to college," Josh had told me. I thought it sounded rather smart. Travelling the world before being locked down to a job.
