After lunch, Gavin took her to a training room. Cameron had stayed behind this time. "Alright, look" He said. "We had some problems yesterday, and this morning you said you solved them."
Akila nodded.
"Show me."
The girl obediently reached inside her soul and arranged a small grey spot, which she tugged. Her indigo eyes brightened until they were like two small fires.
"Well I won't disagree..." Gavin said. "But it usually takes a lot longer than a day to master calling up your power."
"Well..." The girl trailed off. "I would think any aspect of the greatest power in the realm would take some time... but I think we already agreed that I'm strange."
"Indeed we did, so how about we don't focus on that now and instead do some hand to hand combat."
Akila sighed. "Ignoring it won't make it just go away."
The boy ignored her comment. "Do you have any experience in weaponless combat?"
"None whatsoever." She replied.
"Too bad." He said. Gavin threw a lightning quick punch her way, she barely dodged it.
"What are you doing!?" Akila asked, taken aback.
"On the battle field, your enemy won't care if the fight is unfair, as long as it is to their advantage. They'll just kill you, especially demons."
The poor girl weaved as best she could, but the boy's lightning fast strikes were impossible to fully avoid.
She tried asking, "Must we really do this?"
Gavin responded coolly while still throwing moves at her. "Yes, at least once."
His fist connected with her nose so hard that Akila was thrown to the ground. She dabbed at the blood that was trickling from it. Luckily, she rolled out of the way just in time to dodge a foot that was meant for her ribs. As quickly as she could, she got back up.
"Damn you." She whispered under her breath.
"Were this a real battle, you would be about to die. And the best thing you can say is damn you?" Gavin asked.
She grunted in annoyance before just going for a full on tackle. Akila managed to pin him to the ground, stomach down, but she didn't know how to hold him down correctly. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to get ahold of his neck before he elbowed her sharply in the jaw.
"Ow!" She exclaimed.
Instead of wiggling out form underneath her hold, Gavin used his greater body weight and strength to force her onto her back. From there he placed two hands on her neck. "And now you're dead."
Regaining his gentlemanly composure, he stepped back and offered her a hand up. Akila spat blood onto the ground before asking, "Would you at least say you put up a fight?"
"Quite honestly," Gavin said, "If I were a soldier I would probably brag about killing you for a day before washing away the memory with a mug of ale."
"Well that's nice." Akila commented.
"Need I remind you that it was your first fight." Gavin replied.
The girl sighed, she had a long road ahead of her.

"Move your arm up a bit."
Cameron was teaching her how to block a sword strike coming from overhead. "There's no use holding a dagger up if it's below where it needs to be."
