My palms were slick with sweat as the plane door opened. We’d been flying for hours, though I’d slept through most of it, and we were now in Austria where Yiannis’ pack lived. I hated flying; at any moment the engines could fail and we’d be dead so I was just glad to be on the ground again.
“Hey.” I felt Yiannis take my hand in his, giving me a reassuring smile. “You’ll be fine, they’ll love you and we’ll see if there’s a cure.” I doubted it but I didn’t voice my fears. There was a car waiting for us on the tarmac and as we walked down the stairs, a female figure climbed out of the SUV. Yiannis’ face lit up like a kid on Christmas day and when we reached the bottom of the stairs, he raced towards the woman and engulfed her in a bone crushing hug.
I held back a growl as I walked towards the car; who was this woman he seemed so fond of? A girlfriend? He was mine! He stepped back, an arm wrapped around the shoulder of the woman and gestured for me to join them. I felt a headache coming on, the pressure- the monster was trying to push her way forwards. “Evan, this is Jenna.” ‘Jenna’, as in his alpha and great grandniece or something akin to that?
“It’s nice to meet you Evan.” Her voice was heavily accented and had a commanding quality but also sounded very melodic.
She offered her hand and I shook it. “Likewise.”
Yiannis and Jenna talked briefly and it seemed he couldn’t contain his smile; he really loved her, like a daughter. “We should be getting back; everyone’s excited to see you.” Jenna said, gesturing to the car.
I slid into the back seat with Yiannis while Jenna took the passenger seat. I sat in silence as they chattered away, watching the world outside fly by. These past few days had been tiring; I’d had to organise for Chev and Ernest to look after the ranch and because of me, Maddox was recovering so we were short a hand. After I attacked him- something I still didn’t remember doing, he wasn’t healing as a werewolf should and got sick; it’s because I’m rabid. I was angry about what he said and I still hadn’t confronted Yiannis about the heat; I had bigger things to worry about, though I was weary, but Maddox was my friend and I had brutally attacked him. This thing I’d become wasn’t me.
I leant my head against the window as the car pulled down an unnoticeable dirt track that headed directly into mountainous terrain. I gripped the car door as we travelled through thick, overgrown forest and then up a massive incline. Once we reached the top of the peak, the entire valley was spread before me. There was a massive lake and thick forest spread for miles upon miles until it began climbing another mountain. Within the trees I could just barely make out a massive house with other buildings surrounding it; it was a hidden city.
My stomach rolled when the car drove down the steep embankment and I reached for Yiannis; this was almost as bad as flying.
I closed my eyes and leant against the seat as Yiannis began tracing random designs across my hand and up my arm. I must have dozed off because the car had stopped and Yiannis was gently shaking me awake. “Ev, Ev we’re here.” I growled and jerked up, staring out the window to see a massive five or six story house with a massive front door that a lot of people were spilling from.
I took a deep breath as my head began pounding and followed Yiannis out of the car. When he came into view a massive group of people practically jumped him, engulfing him in their arms. It was like he was a celebrity around here and I honestly had no idea why he left; who would leave all this for someone you didn’t even know at the time?
I was pushed to the side as he moved around the crowd and I felt my headache increase. This was ridiculous! I was so sick of feeling these uncontrollable emotions of blood lust and anger; this wasn’t me! A group of two boys- twins, and one girl approached me with massive smiles on their faces. “You must be Evan.” The girl said. She looked just like Jenna; bright blue eyes, long black hair with beautiful tanned skin and high cheek bones. “I’m Elliot and this is Caine and Alex.” They were tall and looked much like Elliot, though their eyes were a vibrant green instead of blue.
