It had gotten worse; so much worse. Abductions of supernatural creatures across the globe had tripled. Hunters had developed new and improved weapons that were far more lethal then before and were becoming far bolder; they’d attacked three packs in the last month and wiped two off the face of the Earth. And worst of all, videos of supernatural creatures in action were slowly making their way into the media, becoming hits online.

The humans were beginning to acknowledge that the monsters under their beds walked among them. And by acknowledge, I meant that they wanted a registry that would consist of microchips and a record of the deaths, births and locations of every supernatural on the planet. That wasn’t going to happen; they would slaughter us all if the registry went ahead. We also still had the element of surprise; they assumed that there were only a few hundred in each species, when in reality; there were more supernatural creatures in the world than there are humans.

War had been brewing for a very long time and I’d done everything in my power to stop it; but now it seemed that all my efforts had been useless. The hunters were determined to go to war and this time they were bringing the rest of mankind with them.

And Yiannis hadn’t called for days; it was odd, and worrying. I’d sent pack members over to his ranch to ensure that he was alright. If only he’d brought his mate and her rag tag group of rogue wolves with her; I would have felt far better. But he didn’t because Evan wouldn’t leave her ranch; I could understand it, though it didn’t mean I liked it. They were far from the pack; far from thousands of wolves who would die to protect each other, far from safety.

There was a knock on my door before it was pushed open and Klaus strode in with Ivan, my head of security and the one I’d sent to check on Yiannis. Their faces were grim and I felt my heart plummet to my toes. Without a word Klaus came to stand behind me, resting his large, warm hands on my shoulders.

“Alpha, when we landed at the airport we immediately went to the ranch; no one answered. We searched the house and surrounding land.” He paused and I felt sick; something had happened, I knew it. “It’s bad Jenna.”

I took a deep breath as Klaus’s hands tightened around me shoulder, giving me strength. Yiannis had been my friend my entire life, he’d helped me through tough times and was like my uncle or older brother. He’d been one of the best beta’s I’d ever had and when he left, everyone missed him. “Just give it to me straight.”

Ivan placed a thick envelope on my desk and for the first time I saw tears in his eyes. “They’d been slaughtered; all of them. Every single man, woman and child was dead. Some were simply shot, others were clearly tortured and the things they did to the women were... sickening. We couldn’t find Evan or Yiannis so we searched the town, all surrounding buildings and land. We found them in an old barn out in the backwoods. They went down fighting Jenna; both of them. We found one of the wolves from the ranch dead in a cage. Evan and Yiannis had killed over a dozen hunters, but both were filled with silver bullets. We found Evan underneath Yiannis; he protected his mate till the end.”

I was frozen, tears streaming down my face. Yiannis was dead. Both he and his mate killed by hunters; they had slaughtered dozens of wolves and murdered my friend. My hands shook as I stood, Klaus following close behind. “They will die; every single hunter and anyone who stands in my way. I will tear them to shreds, I will murder anyone they ever cared about so that they can feel the pain my people have felt for hundreds of years. They die today.” For years I had been covertly eliminating hunting covens who murdered innocent supernaturals and covering my tracks; but no more. Every hunter would now die; and if they chose to bring the rest of humanity into this war, they would go down with them.

I took a deep breath and wiped away my tears. “Gather the pack, they deserve to know what has happened. Release the pictures you took to every major media outlet in Europe and America. They should know exactly who started this war and exactly who to blame when the streets run red with blood.”

Ivan nodded and turned to go. “Oh and ensure that each member of the pack knows that if they see a hunter, to kill them on site; no questions asked.” Soon I would personally take out every family I knew to be hunters; men, women and children. No one would be spared, no mercy would be shown; they’d never shown us any.

No longer would I stand for the murder of any supernatural; be he good or bad. Hunters had murdered us in cold blood for centuries and now I was going to ensure that none of them would survive; they would all die, nothing like this would happen after I was done with humanity.
