Hey guys! So, as people know, EVAN HANSEN IS HINTED TO BE JEWISH. So, I thought, for the start of the holiday season, I would do a little one shot on Connor getting Evan a surprise. Hope you enjoy!
Delicate little snowflakes started falling from the sky.
Connor, at this moment didn't care. He was on his way to his last midterm and was just focusing on passing.
Evan was back at their apartment, having had finished midterms earlier that day, and he was bundled up in blankets, staring out the window. Snowflakes drizzled down the sky, sticking to the window.
A light layer of frost also covered the edge of the window. Peppermint sticks were hanging from the white Christmas tree in the corner, and fairy lights hung from the ceiling.
Evan got up from the couch, and grabbed one of his boyfriend's black sweatshirts, slipping it on. Then, he went out to the balcony, despite it being, as Connor would say, "ten-fucking-degrees you idiot".
Evan stood outside, letting the snow fall down gently in his hair, on his eyelashes, everywhere. Connor's sweatshirt made him feel warm despite the frost. He looked out on snow covered New York, and smiled. He quietly wished that his boyfriend would be there.
And while Evan was staring out at the beautiful scenery, Connor was staring at formulas.
"This is such bullshit," he muttered under his breath, his pencil scratching numbers on the paper. He just wanted to be home with his boyfriend. He wanted to kiss him senseless, he wanted to bake cookies and drink hot chocolate. He wanted to be with Evan.
But he wouldn't let himself fail, so he worked away at the math problems, and tried not to let his mind wander. . . Too much, at least.
Then, in the middle of finding some obscure measurement, Connor stopped, his pencil frozen in midair. Evan was part Jewish, right? But, they had never really celebrated Hanukkah.
Connor had a great idea, but first, he needed to finish his midterm.
Once the test was over, Connor gripped his coat tightly, trying to shield himself from the cold, and walked over to a cute boutique. In the window was a menorah painted in the colors of the rainbow.
It would be perfect, Connor thought to himself, and walked into the store.
Five minutes later, he was walking out with the menorah in a gift bag, and a small smile on his face.
He walked home as flurries of snow came down harder. His cheeks stung red by the time he got to the apartment, but he was so happy to go see his boyfriend.
He opened up the door, and saw Evan sitting on the balcony, wrapped in a blanket with one of Connor's sweatshirts on, watching the snow fall.
Connor snuck up to Evan, and placed a gentle kiss to the crown of his head. "You are going to catch your death of cold," Connor said, giving his boyfriend a hug.
"It's a little cold, but I like it out here. It's very calming and peaceful," Evan sighed.
"You're right. How was your day?" Connor asked, holding his boyfriend's hand.
"Good. A little anxious, but good overall. You?"
"I think the test went well. The meds are helping the depression still. I haven't cut for a week."
Evan's face lit up like a Christmas tree when I told him that. "Really!?" he smiled brightly. "Oh, Connor, I'm so proud of you!" Evan gave Connor a big hug. Then, he noticed the bag.
"What's inside?" Evan asked Connor, motioning to the bag.
This time, Connor face lit up. "Oh I got you something!"
"Thanks Connor," Evan said, placing a kiss to his boyfriend's cheek. "What is it?"
"Well, I know that you're Jewish, even if you don't bring it up. And I know that Hanukkah is something that your family celebrated when you were younger. And, I, uh, I was thinking, maybe for our first holiday season together, we could celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah."
Evan smiled so brightly, hugging his boyfriend tightly. "I love you," he whispered.
Connor gave Evan the bag, and Evan pulled out the rainbow menorah.
"You got me a rainbow menorah!" Evan exclaimed excitedly.
"Well, I had to do something gay."
Evan put the menorah on the mantel next to the Christmas tree. They'd light it at the start of Hanukkah, which was soon.
Evan was so thankful for such a thoughtful boyfriend. The snuggled up under blankets, turned on the TV, and drank not chocolate together.
"I love you, Connor Murphy."
"I love you, Evan Hansen."
