Life in the apocalypse (On hold)

chapter 9

After meeting back up with my family, I take some time to get to know everyone in the camp, well their names at least. I dont know if we're staying long, but my little brother seems to enjoy it here, and he's friends with Carl now, Ricks' son, so I guess for his sake we will stay a little longer. 

Andrea introduced me to her younger sister, Amy. She seems pretty cool but I have a bad feeling about them two. Like something bads gonna happen, I can feel it. Bad things always happen to good people in this world. Andrea also introduced me to Dale, he's close with her and Amy, I think he's almost like a father-figure to them. 

The man who was asking questions is Shane, Ricks life long friend. He's also friends with Lori, Ricks wife, and Carl and he kept them safe while Rick was missing. He seems okay, but I don't know about fully trusting him yet. Something seems off about him. I can feel the tension between him and Lori but I wont say anything because I'm not 100% sure what it is, but they way they look and act around each-other is obvious something has happened between them. 

Lori is nice. She's definitely an over-protective mother type but who can blame her. In this world especially. Her son, Carl, is a good kid. He's funny and really looks up to his dad, it's sweet. He reminds me a lot of Jackson. 

I'm also introduced to Carol, her husband Ed and their daughter Sophia. Ed is an asshole from what Lori tells me. He abuses Carol which automatically puts him in my bad books. If I see him hit her or anyone else I wont hesitate to beat his ass. Sophia is a sweet little girl. She's shy, but with how her father is, I cant blame her. She's best friends with Carl and its cute to see them play together. I briefly say hi to Morales and his wife and kids. They don't really talk all that much and they just stay together so I leave them be. 

It's night, and we're all sitting around a little campfire we have going. I'm holding my little brother, rocking him back and forth as he slowly falls asleep. While everyone is talking my parents and older brothers decide to call it a night and head to their tents. We only have two man tents so I'm with Jackson, which I don't mind. Slowly throughout the night everyone goes off to bed, and its left with just me, Jackson and Shane.

'How'd you get out of there?' I look up to Shane and tilt my head in confusion, 'I mean, T-dog said you guys were trapped. How'd you get out?'

'There's always a way out of every situation, you just have to be smart enough to know it' He chuckles at my response and I give him a small smile.

'So...my parents told me you helped look after my little bro? Did he cause any trouble?'

'Nah kid was fine. I taught him a few little things y'know. Just stuff like how to tie a knot, and stuff about nature. I told him I would teach him and Carl how to catch frogs. You can join if you'd like?'  

'Well it sounds like you guys had a lot of fun' we laugh, 'but Ill think about your frog proposal but for now I think its time for me to take little one to bed.' I say motioning towards the little boy, curled up sleeping on my lap. Shane laughs,

'Yeah looks like its that time. He missed you. He would always tell me stories about you and how he knows you were gonna come back.' I smile at Shanes words.

'Well, goodnight Shane'

'Goodnight Lizzy' 

We both head off to bed. I get into my tent and lay my brother down in his sleeping bag, he stirs a little bit before opening his eyes slightly and looking up at me.

'I missed you Lizzy' he says softly to me. I look at him and smile, brushing his hair out of his face.

'I missed you too buddy, but lets sleep now yeah? And then tomorrow you can tell me all about your adventures with Shane and Carl' He smiles at me and closes his eyes again, falling back to sleep, but not before he cuddles up to me. I put my arm around him, holding him close,

'Goodnight Jackson' I whisper and kiss his head before falling into the darkness that is sleep myself.
