We are so excited about all of the excitement over the First Annual OVOS AWARDS!!!! We are not at all surprised by the quality of stories that have been nominated! Wow, the talent that is here on Wattpad is nothing short of amazing. Keep the nominations coming because they do close December 1, 2017.

We were asked and yes, you can promote the OVOS Awards on your page and/or book. You want your readers to know that you are nominated or wanting to be nominated. Let them know so that they can get involved and help you! That's what these awards are all about. We want to get as many combined eyes on your works as possible and your biggest cheerleaders are your readers! They won't know to back you if you don't communicate to them what's going on. We want these awards to be a page where readers can come to find a page filled with "our stories." The Reading Lists for all books nominated will remain on this page. We want readers to go through and see the incredible variety of books that are here on Wattpad.

If you are enjoying an author and find yourself obssessed with their work, what bigger compliment can you give them than to nominate and support their book? And if you're a newer writer with not a huge following, don't be discouraged, the only way readers can find you is if you put yourself out there. If you want your book nominated, nominate yourself! Don't be embarrassed, this is your opportunity for your work to be seen!

There are some things that we are noticing during nominations that we wanted to point out. Please help us cut down on books that we have to disqualify.

1) Please make sure that the book you are nominating has at least three chapters.

2) Please make sure that the author you are nominating is still on Wattpad or please check the spelling of their name. We've come across some author accounts that are "not found."

3) Please don't nominate a series as "the series," nominate each individual book within that series.

4) Please make sure that the book you are nominating is still in the writer's library. Many writers will take down books without warning, so double check that the book is still available.

5) Please make sure that the books you are nominating have at least one main character that is a person of color. Some books being nominated have no persons of color in the story and that is one of the requirements to be considered for these awards. Even if the writer is a person of color, that doesn't qualify their book to be nominated. Any writer can participate in these awards as long as their story has at least one person of color as a main character. Our focus is on celebrating stories that are about person's of color.

6) Please make sure that you are following the rules of the awards. (Don't nominate a book over 5,000 reads for the Phillis Wheatley award).

7.) Multiple nominations of a book in the first 10 categories does not guarantee that the book will make it into the top 5 books that will move on in that category. One nomination for these books are enough.

How it Works: There are 10 judges of various ages, backgrounds, etc., who are judging anonymously in the first round to choose the top five books that move on in each category. The first round is their combined scores, from judging the first three chapters of every book nominated. They have criteria they will follow and their score will include notes as to why they scored the book the way they did. (If you would like to see the judges notes on your book, we will have that in a spreadsheet and can share that with you upon request after we finish the awards).

On, December 18, 2017, the top five books moving on in each category will be announced and from then on, those same judges will read each book nominated in their entirety and will score the books in a more extensive judging sheet. Their scores will be combined with the fan votes. In the second round, per category, you get one vote only. (Right now you can nominate as many books as you want.)

Frederick Douglass Award: This award is the only one in the first round that is based on fan votes only (one vote per reader). The top five books moving on in this award is based on the books that have the most votes by the end of the first round nominations. In the second round, the book with the most votes will win this award. Judges have no say in this award.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know here or in a private message. We will try to get back with you as soon as possible.
