"The Alice Walker Award"

Alice Walker (born February 9, 1944) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and poet most famous for authoring The Color Purple (1982). The Color Purple is a cultural phenomenon. Walker's Story was turned into an Academy Award winning motion picture and a Tony winning Broadway Play. Walker's characters were so beloved that she incorporated them into two other novels: The Temple of My Familiar (1989) and Possessing the Secret of Joy (1992). Her characters are not one-dimensional heroes or villains. Walker carefully gave each character many layers which makes them still memorable to this day.

This award will be given to the stories with the most memorable characters. It's difficult to make a character that is charismatic, likable, interesting, ordinary, extraordinary, well-motivated, dynamic, etc. The stories nominated for this award even make the villains and minor characters interesting.
