Mari snuggles close to me as we lay down on a bedsheet in Victoria Park. Mari lays down on my lap and I toss little M&M's into his mouth while Finley lays down on the opposite side of me.
"Where's Lei?" I ask him as he checks his phone.
"I asked him to come but he's working so, yeah." he sighs and catches an M&M in midair stealing it from Mari.
The fireworks start to explode in the sky and Mari giggles at the sight.
"So what is this Bonfire day about anyway?" Fin asks and goes to steal another candy but Mari slaps him away with a loud smack.
"I think it's like a failed fourth of July. I was reading somewhere that some guy named Fawkes tried blowing up the basements of members of parliament. He was caught though." I try to explain.
"We have something like this on Bridgeport. It's called Monarchy day where we celebrate our island's declaration of independence as a country to serve asylum to all who seek." Mari explains and I slowly bend down and kiss his forehead.
"Speaking of home. I'm going back to the States for three days for Thanksgiving. Do you want to come with me?" I ask him honestly.
The bright red fireworks explode in the sky and adding dimension to his beautiful green eyes.
"You really want me to come home with you?" He asks softly. His hand gently reaches up and caresses my cheek. I carefully grab his hand and hold it in mine, kissing his soft hand with the promise ring grazing my lips.
"Of course. I love you and I plan on being with you for a very long time Mari." I tell him honestly.
"But if you don't want to that's fine too," I tell him and he stops me.
"No are you kidding? Of course, I'll go!" he smiles and warms up his hands in my pocket.
"I hope I didn't miss much," I sit back from Mari and turn to see Lei had grabbed Finley from behind and pulled him close. Poor Fin goes into a cough attack from the shock. Still sick and recovering from whatever it was he had in the hospital.
"Don't.Scare.Me.Like.That!" Finley yells at him and punches him. Wiggling out of his arms.
"It's strange to see him monogamous for a change." my savage Mari laughs and scavenges my pockets for more candy.
"I know. I felt like we were sexiled every day. At least this guy has his own apartment," I whisper back.
Our conversation masked by the boom of the fireworks going off above us. Lei and Fin sit side by side only their hands barely touching. They had just started for about a month now and Fin was just starting to let down his guard a little bit. Just a little bit though.
Finley and Mari suddenly check their phones at the same time. Fin turns to Mari and raises an eyebrow. "What do you think?" He asks and Lei and I look at each other confused.
"I mean sure, why not. We could use the fresh air." Mari says.
"I agree. You guys want to go to France with us at the end of this month?" Finley asks and now I was more confused than before.
"What do you mean? What?"
Mari giggles and pinches my cheek.
"My cousin Clara is studying abroad in the south of France and wants us to go pay a visit. Want to come with!?" Mari asks and I shrug.
"Sure why not. I mean what's the worst that could happen."
