MONDAY

I had a responsibility. A big one.

How was I going to care for another being when I couldn't even care for myself? I cut myself just because I felt worthless, for Pete’s sake! I couldn't do this. I really couldn't.

"Gemma! "

I jumped slightly. Blinking slowly, I looked up at my mom.

"I've been calling you for over five minutes now Gemma," She said in a disapproving tone. "What's wrong with you?"

I hung my head low. Mom was disappointed in me and I didn't even want to think about Dad. He was never going to look at me the same way again. Tears filled my eyes. What should I do?

Mom wrapped her arms around me and hugged me. I let the tears fall and I sobbed. Mom ran her hand through my hair slowly and softly.

"Everything is going to be okay dear," She cooed.

How could she tell such a lie at a time like this? Nothing will be okay and nothing will never be the same again. I shook my head and removed myself from my mother's embrace. I looked up at her.

"How can you say such a thing like that mom?" I asked in confusion. "I'm pregnant; I let you down, I let dad down."

She sighed and sat down beside me. "I was eighteen when I found I was pregnant with Jackson. It was hard, I had just started college when I found out but we didn't have to worry about money. It got hard after he was born because your father and I had school, we didn't have time for Jackson but I am thankful for my family. They stuck with us and helped us, they took care of him while we tried to pave our way for you all and in the end, we ended up hurting you all."

Tears welled up in my eyes again.

She smiled at me. "We'll be here to guide you, Gemma. So please stop acting like it's the end of the world."

"But what about Dad?"

She fanned me off. "Leave him to me."
