New Beginnings - A Nathan Riggs Story [Grey's Anatomy]

That funny feeling once again.

MEREDITHS POV

I had just gotten out of a 9 hour surgery which, didn't end as we all planned. No one liked losing a patient and it was always hard when that happened but over time you grow to understand that sometimes that's just going to happen. Letting out a huge defeated sigh, I gathered myself together and made my way for the elevator but making a quick stop to the ladies. That's usually where I go when surgeries haven't gone to plan, I would go there and hover over the sink just hoping a sister of mine or anyone would walk in. And today, was one of those days.
"Hey! Woah, you alright?"
It was Maggie.
"Yeah yeah, i'm fine"
She just gave me a worry look, and from that look I knew she knew something was up.
"Didn't go well today huh?"
"Nope"
There was a short silence but she finally spoke up again.
"Well to try lighten your mood, I met him"
I turned to her, acting as if I had no idea what she was talking about but I did.
"Meet who?"
"Nathan!"
"Really? So did Amelia, she said his a great guy"
She let out a laugh and leaned against the wall.
"Yeah well that's Amelia, look I don't totally disagree with him but I didn't have a pleasant introduction."
I finally turned around, this time facing her instead of staring at her through the mirror.
"Really?"
"Yup"
"Well, tell me what happened"
"He stole my patient! Well...almost"
I let out a laugh and took of my scrub cap.
"What do you mean? I'm sure that's not a big deal"
"Well it wasn't, but I mean maybe not for you. You know how I like being the first to respond to a 911!
Well, he was just...there. Like he, he beat me to it?"
"Well, Maggie he kind of did"
"Yeah I guess...so I went over there and took over, he was pissed Mer"
"Oh Maggie"
"What?"
"Let the guy do his job!"
"Hey! Who's side are you on? You haven't even met the guy!"
"I'm not on anyone's side, come on it was his first day let him enjoy it"
She mumbled something under her breath, but she didn't do a good job at.
"Huh? What was this?"
"Nothing!"
"Nothing?"
"Mer..."
I just shook my head in a friendly manner and made my way for the door.
"Well, i've got to go do some pre-op notes, see you at home?"
Maggie nodded and rubbed her eyes, waking her up.

I made my way to the elevator, and once it opened a family of four made their way out giving me a smile so I did the same back. Pressing the level 2 button multiple times just waiting for it to shine blue and felt relief when it did. Just as the doors were about to shut, in came a hand just stopping and suddenly the doors reopened. It was silent for a while, I knew it was him but I didn't say anything, just to be on the safe side. So I just rocked back on my heels and pulled out my phone, tapping away.
"I'm Nathan, Nathan Riggs"
I felt a flush of relief as I was right, it was him. Turning away from my phone for only a quick look at him.
"I know who you are"
"Oh really? Were you just in that introduction meeting?"
Looking back at my phone, I furrowed my eyebrows with confusion as I had no idea what he was talking about.
"No but uh, my sister - Pierce, she was the one who took your patient this morning"
I did that thing I do with my fingers when I was explaining something, probably looking like a complete weirdo.
"Oh I wouldn't put it that way..."
I knew he was lying just to sound nice which was kind of sweet.
"Ha! No need to cover up, we've all been there"
I let out a soft giggle after that, still on my phone.
"So, do you work here?"
Locking my phone and just holding it between my hands, moving my head to face him also moving strands of hair out of my face.
"Meredith Grey."
Saved by the bell! Then went off the elevator signalling to me that I had arrived on the second floor.
"The Meredith Grey?"
Now putting my phone into my coat jacket, rocking back on my heels...any minute now.
"Yup!"
And in a hurry, I left the man standing there not knowing what to say also leaving with my stomach hurting. I must've been in such a hurry that I didn't even realise I bumped into Alex.
"Mer, you alright?"
"Yeah-huh!"
I haven't felt like this for ages, and if it really was the same feeling...
