Demon AU
I've always liked scary games and stuff as a child. Bloody Mary, Charlie Charlie, you name it I've played it. At least... that's what I thought.
I was nonchalantly relaxing on my checkered comforter, next to my glittering pendulum collection, each crystal hanging delicately by its silver chain. They were lined up on a little tarnished necklace stand nailed to the cobalt blue painted wall. My fingers lightly flicked the edge of the next page in my book as I anticipated the upcoming action. A peaceful silence had found its way into the house. That was until Edd and Matt came bursting through the front door knocking a potted plant to the ground. "TOM! TOM! WE NEED HELP!"
Edd was screaming my name from the living room. I threw my book to the side and bolted, prepared to assist them. I hurried down the wood stairs, the surface like ice against my bare feet. Edd and Matt were standing in the doorway, their thin arms fighting to support the amount of grocery bags on them. Edd was struggling to remove a heavy mint green coat from his lime hoodie. Matt had already thrown his army green jacket to the floor in a clump. The cheap white plastic split like paper, spilling 20 cans of soft cat food. Ringo came bounding in from the kitchen at the sound, his little paws thumping against the red throw rug.
I rushed over, collecting the fallen cans into my hoodie pocket. "Thank you," he said kindly "oh! we got you something we thought you would like." Edd's shadow appeared on the floor as his figured blocked out the light above me. "Turn around."
My body froze and I did as he said, slowly checking back over my shoulder. Matt, the ginger-haired narcissists, was joyfully holding up a wooden board with the alphabet printed on it.
The color, the style, the spacing of intricate patterns... it just rubbed me the wrong way. "It's an Ouija board! I hope you like it cause that crap was freakin' expensive."
My foot pivoted my body around and the preserved food in my hand rolled back to the floor. All of a sudden I got this bad gut feeling, leaving a metallic taste in my mouth.
They took note of the blank expression I held. "Aww c'mon. You love stuff like this!"
"Yeah but that thing is different."
"It's one of those ghosty games, like Charlie Charlie... almost." I sighed and hesitantly accepted the gift.
"Thanks...". As soon as the smooth wood touched the palm of my hands, I felt this spark of energy shoot through my arm, rattling my bones. Something was definitely different.
My heart started racing as I was handed the plywood planchette.
"Aren't these things supposed to be possessed or something?" I witnessed Edd and Matt exchange glances.
"You don't like it? I mean... we can try to return it or exchange it for a pendulum."
All of a sudden I had no control of myself. "No. In fact, we should go play." My lips moved, but I wasn't the one in charge. It raised several red flags, all my nerves went haywire, tingling and such.
"Oh, ok...... if that's what you want." My two friends continued to hold each other's gazes before walking over to the living room. I followed. They took a seat on the floor, legs crossed and facing each other.
I systematically placed the board between them, using my friends as table legs. My entire body felt like it was alive with electricity as I cautiously placed the planchette atop the surface. As soon as I did it began moving, sliding around, frantically spelling.
