It's been a few years since I joined the Red Army, and only 8 months since I fell in love.....

I checked my digital watch as I bolted down the grand corridor, my shoes slipping on the royal red carpet. Thoughts raced through my head as white metal doors and well-dressed soldiers blurred past me.

I'm late, I'm late!!

Red Leader had decided to schedule a last minute meeting about the ongoing wars in the area. It had been late at night when he told me and I foolishly forgot to set an alarm on my phone. Now I was paying for it.

I hastily rounded a corner, dodging an oncoming guard and sprinting by, my overcoat trailing in the air behind me like a flag in a hurricane. Eventually I reached the door of the conference room, falling to my knees and panting hard. My throat burned as if it were on fire, each breath feeding the painful flames.

Once I had somewhat recovered, I slowly pushed down on the classic lever knob and the entrance fell away to an empty room.

The unused chalkboard at the end of the oval table was veiled in a thin sheet of dust as was the little lip under it. The tall black leather swivel chairs were pushed in neatly against the glossy wood top.

Everything was so quiet you could have probably heard a pin drop.

Did I miss it?

Embarrassment coursed through my blood, the fire freezing over in my stomach. I shut the door behind me and walked away to find Red Leader's office.

Maybe I could join Matt on his military expedition later. It would be nice to spend time with the man I love.

As I approached the office, a sweet giggle erupted from behind the wall. I immediately recognized the voice to be Matt's... but the reason why he was with Tord was unclear.

Hushed whispers accompanied the noise and negative thoughts filled my head. All of a sudden the door knob jiggled and out slipped the ginger, quickly sealing the entrance. My eyes scanned the brit's unusually messy clothing.

As he pivoted to face me, the light died from his eyes and his smile fell. "Edd! I didn't plan on seeing you here!" The male fumbled around with the buttons on the white shirt that hung loosely from his thin frame. He then flipped up the collar to hide the red and purple marks that dappled the delicate freckled skin on his neck.

"Yeah." I murmured, trying to hide my broken heart.

"What brings you around this part of the base, I thought you worked in the communication bay." He asked while combing his fingers through his tangled hair.

"I do, but I need to speak with Red."

"Oh... he should be happy to see you. Good luck!" With that he turned and skipped off cheerfully, his silk eyepatch shimmering in the light.

I turned my attention back to the door before me and hesitantly pushed it open. I solemnly entered the small room, my gaze coming to rest on a disorganized leader scrambling to collect his papers.

He looked up as soon as the lock clicked. "Oh hey Edd. What brings you here?"

"I was wondering what ever happened to the meeting today."

His silver eyes widened. "Oh crap! The meeting!— THOMAS!!"

On cue, the blind brit emerged from a side door with a glass tablet placed carefully in his gloved palms.

"Tom, can you move the morning conference to this afternoon? After that, notify everyone attending."

"But you have a lunch date scheduled with the head of the mechanical design department." The male dressed in blue adjusted the leather strap on his goggles so that they rode just above his ears.
