It's so cold...

You shuddered, not just from cold, but from fear too. You were all alone, in the middle of the forest, in the middle of the night. And with little direction how to get out of here. Sure as hell you would not be home by midnight.

You took a few steps forward gingerly. The dead leaves under your feet crunched, an eerie sound in the dark. Unsure, you stood still again, arms wrapped around yourself.

If it hadn't been for your dog, you wouldn't be here right now. But no, of course she had to run away on the same day you heard the rumour of them being back. And of course you were too stubborn to listen to your parents when they told you not to go looking for her.

Well, if you wanted to get out of here, you should just try different directions, right? Hesitantly you turned around, walking slowly back down the path. Everything was so quiet. It didn't seem right.

After a few minutes you began to get an uneasy feeling in your gut, like somebody you knew was watching you. You bit your lip, speeding up. Cold nights air slashed your face, stray snowflakes hitting your cheeks.

The feeling didn't go away and you started to run in the moonlight, no orientation, just straight down the unclear path. You were breathing heavily, pulse fast. Too fast.

You came to a halt when you reached the end of the path. It just stopped, right in front of a clump of trees. You scrunched your eyebrows, sure you hadn't been here before, and looked around. The loose end of your scarf dangled behind you, trailing on the ground.

A twig snapped in the distance. You jumped, wide eyed. Something was so off about this place. It felt like hidden danger, lethal danger. You gulped, taking a step backwards. You weren't sure, but you thought you saw his shadowy figure in the distance.

There were around two seconds of holding your breath and standing still. The silence felt heavy and tense. Then a pair of eyes focused on you in the distance, gleaming blood red.

It's them.

You didn't give yourself a second to think. You raced through the woods, zig-zagging between the trees. Tripping over branches and slipping on the frosty ground, you ran from them, chasing you.

As you ran, you saw the others shadows, watching you. They were above and beneath you, camly examining you. Shivers ran down your spine and you ran faster, panting. This was life or death once more, you knew it.

A sudden slope made you stumble and fall, rolling down the hill, cold ground hard and icy. You squeezed your eyes shut, bracing for inpact as your head hit stone. Crying out in pain, you curled on the ground, body shaking.

Leaves crunched under somebody's steps. You opened your eyes and saw a man, silhuette hazy. His eyes were upon you, glowing a deep red. You fought to stand up, struggling on the ground. You knew it was him. You'd never forget him.

Gripping the jagged surface of the rock behind you, you tried standing up, gasping for air. He still only watched you, expression unreadable in the dark. Blood gushed from the wound at the back of your head, making you collapse back onto the ground.

You felt dizzy and weak, and your vision lapsed back into unclearness as you lay there. But as you started to fall into complete darkness, you felt someone lift your chin. With the last strengh you had you opened your eyes again, looking into his hungry red ones.
