STACY’S POV
My iPhone alarm went off on my phone. Where was my phone? I looked next to my bed on the charger, and it wasn’t there. I looked under the covers, under the bed. I listened more carefully. I noticed it was coming from the closet. Then, it turned off.
“Strange,” I whispered under my breath. I grabbed the bedside lamp on the table to my right. I got up, making my way to the closet. I opened the closet door, seeing immediately a mountain of clothes piled on top of each other and a part of a wall swinging, almost like a doggy door. I stood back, spotting my phone on top of the clothes pile. I rushed to grab it, unlocked it, and took a picture of the trap door. Then I ran.
“Mom, Dad!” I shouted, running down the stairs to their room.
“What, Sweetheart? You need to be getting ready for school.” Dad answered.
“No, we don’t have time for that! Look!” I grabbed his arm and ran to my closet. I opened the door, seeing the large pile of clothes, but no trap door.
“What?” he asked. “All I see is a mess that you need to clean up later.”
“No, look!” I unlocked my phone and showed him the picture. “It was right there! Someone or something had my phone, the alarm went off, they were in the closet, it turned off, I checked, and I saw this with the mountain of clothes that I didn’t put there and my phone was on top.” I took a deep breath from that large sentence and looked at my dad’s facial expression.
He was in his thinking mode. I wasn’t crazy. “Maybe we can get a few guys to poke around and check it out, but you have to go back to school. First day since winter break.” He smiled. I know he just didn’t want me getting hurt, and that’s why he’s making me go.
“Ugh, fine.” I slouched. “I need to get dressed. Thanks Dad.” I hugged him. He walked out, while I looked for something to wear.
I decided to go with a white knit pullover sweater and black Converse, with light grey pants. I put some light waves in my hair after doing my morning essentials. I put on my make-up, which consists of eyeliner, mascara, and very little concealer. I put on little diamond earrings in both top and bottom holes. During that whole time, I couldn’t get the situation from this morning out of my head.
I walked downstairs into the kitchen and grabbed two Pop-Tarts. “Good morning, Stephen.” I saw my older brother flipping through a muscle magazine drinking a bottle of Muscle Milk. “Starting a new diet?” My curiosity still wasn’t fed from my encounter in the closet, but I decided I should just put it off until I could actually do something about it.
“Yes. Except this time, it involves going to the gym.” My brother was the only one in the family that was with an overweight gene. Yet, he surprisingly stayed fit since he was 13 when he started getting picked on. He and my dad planned out a diet for him to follow strictly, and he took Stephen to the gym once a week.
