Mackenzie’s POV
After being called out by Tyler I ran to the bathroom and cried. I knew something like this would happen, why did I agree to do it? I was staring at my distorted image in the mirror, mascara running down my face when Sydney walked in. “Hey, bae. I’m really sorry we didn’t mean for anything like this to happen” she said I could tell she wasn’t faking it.
“Its okay, you didn’t know. I should have though, he knows me too well. Do you think I’ll get in trouble?” I asked genuinely scared, I can’t get in trouble. No its not because I’m some freaky brainiac who only cares about going to big universities, but if I get in trouble my parent’s will never let me leave the house again.
“Nah, its not like he has any proof it was us. Ash and I already got rid of the evidence.” she said and I sighed in relief. It sounded like we were covering up a murder or something. “Wanna know what I did after you left?” she smiled evilly.
“Do I?” I asked and she nodded urgently“Okay.”
“Wellll, after you left, Tyler and I may or may not have shared a few words” I opened my mouth to interrupt her but she held up her pointer finger to signal me to remain quiet. “Yeah, that’s not the best part! The best part is I pantsed him in front of EVERYONE.” After she finished a huge smile rose to my face.
“No way!”
“Way!”
“But won’t you get in trouble?” I asked
“More than likely, but anything for you bae!” she replied hugging me.
“Has anyone ever told you you’re the bestest friend ever?” I said as we spun around in the bathroom like little kids.
“No” she said simply “But maybe people should start” I rolled my eyes at her remark before picking up my bag and heading back out in the hallway. I walked out of the bathroom and straight into someone’s chest. Their arms snaked around my body, I looked up to see Ashton.
“Are you okay?” he mumbled into my hair. I nodded taking in his scent. Does he always smell this good? I wandered. “We should be heading home” Ashton said clearing his throat and removing his hands.
“Yeah” I mumbled but not letting him go. Is it weird that I just want to stay like this? I finally let go of Ashton and stared at the ground afraid that he’ll see my pink tinted cheeks.
“Its like you can feel the awkward...” Sydney said laughing
“Just come on!” I said grabbing her wrist and dragging her out of the door Ashton trailing close behind. We all piled back in the car like we did this morning.
“So Mack, you wanna go get something to eat or just head to your house?” Ashton asked slowly trying to break the awkward silence we’ve created.
“I’d actually like to go home, thanks..” I said just as awkward. I don’t know why its awkward right now between us....we’ve hugged before, what made that time anymore different? Maybe it was the way you fit into his chest? Or the way he smelled, or it could be his muscles? It could also be the way when he smiles his dimples pop out, or his curls or- Woah Mack you need to stop.

After arriving at my house we all got out and climbed up my unnecessarily long amount of porch steps. Like I don’t even understand the need for so many steps. As soon as I walked in they living room I flopped on the couch face first and buried my head into the pillow. “I’m really sorry, Kenzie” Ashton said sitting on the edge of the couch beside me and rubbing my back.
“I’m okay” I mumbled replaying everything that happened over and over in my head. “I’m just not the revenge type...even if it is a small amount.”
“We’re still sorry, we shouldn’t have dragged you into it. We know its not your style”
What does she mean ‘not my style’? Just because I’m not a troublemaker doesn’t mean I can’t have fun and get back at people. I mean I helped with the revenge....I just didn’t appreciate all that Tyler was saying about me, that stung. I know I shouldn’t be getting upset by her comment she didn’t mean anything by it but I am.
“Whatever” I mumbled getting off the couch and stomping up the stairs. I could hear Sydney and Ashton following me so I decided to quicken my pace. I ran into my bedroom and slammed the door behind me.
“What’s wrong, Mack?” Sydney asked.
“What do you think I’m just some ‘goodie goodie two shoes’?” I replied hotly. “Because, I’m not!”
“I know that, Mack. We know that, why are you mad?”
Why am I mad again?
“Because I’m tired of you treating me like a goodie goodie little girl.” I heard Sydney sigh through the door and I instantly felt bad, but I had to stand my ground.
“But we don’t think you’re a goodie goodie” Sydney complained. I rolled my eyes even though she couldn’t see me. I dug through my closet until I found my ripped black skinny jeans and a matching shirt. I completed the look by adding a pair of black converse and some dark eye shadow.
“Yeah, well I know I’m not” I said pushing open the door. As soon as they laid eyes on my Ashton’s got wide and Sydney’s arms crossed over her chest. “Excuse me.” Okay so I don’t exactly know what I’m doing but, I mean, it can’t be that hard right? I ran down the stairs and reached into the closet and pulled out the baseball bat I use whenever I have to stay home alone.
I ran out to my car before Ashton and Sydney could catch up to me and try and ask me what I’m doing. I pulled out of the drive and sped down the road a little faster than I usually would. I made my way onto Tyler’s street and hopped out of the car swiftly and started walking down his street. I admit I did feel awkward walking down his street trying to be normal in all black clothes and a baseball bat.
When I reached his neighbor’s house I cut through the backyard hoping they wouldn’t notice. I hopped the bushes that separates the two houses and ran behind the big oak tree in his backyard. I peered around it to check if he was in sight, and sure enough he was sitting in his living room, on his couch, making out with another girl. Oh and not just any girl that slut Katie Andrews.
Nope, huh uh, not happening.
I ran from out behind the tree and under the window beside the backdoor. I peeked up above the window to get a better view, I stood up and was about to make my way towards the garage when I saw him raise up her shirt. I gasped and fell into the window. They pulled away and Tyler stumbled up. I quickly got back in the position I was before and hoped he didn’t see me. He opened the window beside the one I was under.
“I guess it was just a bird” he said closing it. I gave him a minute before crawling past the door and standing up. I tiptoed to the garage and pulled a bobby pin out of my hair, I leaned over to the control panel and stuck the pin in the lock. After twisting it about three times I heard the lock click, and I knew I was in. I opened the panel and typed in the four digit code. They let Tyler come up with the combination and considering he’s not that bright it was 1,2,3,4.
The garage door lifted open and I walked in. I pulled out the bat and got into stance. “This is what you get for hurting me.”
