For PTXandScomichelover
I shifted on the bed, hearing quiet whimpering. I ran my fingers through Scott's blonde hair. He had taken me to the doctor last night. And even though I wasn't exactly all there, I remember him singing to me. He would place soft kisses on my forehead. I still felt like hell but I was much better after he gave me the pill. He broke doctor's orders to make sure I survived the night. The pill made my chills come less frequent and my breathing return to normal. Last night, it felt like my lungs were filled with gas and every time I would breathe in, it was like a spark. It ignited my whole chest in pain.
"Scott?" He his eyes opened and he shot up at the sound of my quiet voice.
"Mitch? Please tell me this isn't a dream." I made a weird face.
"This isn't a dream?" My voice is strained. He pulled me into a hug.
"Oh thank god." He sniffled. "I thought I had lost you." I held him tightly.
"No. You didn't."
It didn't hurt that much the second time we made love. He was already being gentle with me. It felt really refreshing actually. I could finally tune in properly at his caresses or his lips gliding along my skin. I could feel the heat we were creating instead of the constant cold I had with my fever. It was wonderful. I was laying on my back with my face towards Scott as he brushed back my hair. His eyes closed.
"What would I have done if you died?"
"You would have held on. But moved on." He laughed softly.
"I could never move on from my first love." He bumped his nose on mine. "I love you."
"I love you too." He put his hand against my forehead after awhile.
"You're still a little warm. Let's get you something to eat and you can take another pill." We both pulled on our clothes before heading downstairs hand in hand. I felt something for Scott beyond anything I have ever received since my dad died. It made me feel special. Wanted. Loved. And that's what I knew I was when I was with Scott.
I hid behind Scott as we came into the kitchen. Kirstie was sitting on the counter, watching her husband make a sandwich. Kevin was doing dishes in the sink. Scott calmly walked me over to the table. I sat down on the chair with a wince that everyone in the room noticed. Scott didn't say anything. He just gathered things from out of the fridge.
"Don't think we didn't hear you two." I felt my blush spread across my cheeks. Oh, this was embarrassing. Scott just had an unreadable smile on his lips.
"I don't care." He set a plate of food down in front of me before eating his own. Just like every time he made food, I nibbled on it.
"That look." Kirstie's husband leaned down in front of Scott's face. He glanced between the two of us. "You're in love." He stated. Scott grinned.
"How did you know?"
"It pretty obvious. When you two going to get hitched?" I slapped my hand over my mouth to keep from spitting out my food.
"Avi. He's only been here two months." I zoned out as their conversation continued. Two months with Scott and he made me turn into a totally different person. I felt that one arm was free from the shackles around my wrists. But I couldn't break out of the other. My hand was too big so unless I scraped my skin down to the bone, I was stuck. Only Scott had the key to free me.
Marriage right now would be like shackles on my wrists and ankles. The ring would be the chains. I get out of slavery just to be flung into a different version. Though I wanted the blonde to be the only boy I will ever be with, I didn't want to be stuck. Scott could get bored with me. I know I wouldn't get bored of him. There was so much he had to offer. I could only give a broken body and my experience as a slave.
"Good catch?" I was looking at Kirstie who had the words scrawled on a piece of paper. I looked at Scott with a happy smile. "I read something. Without help!" A sparkle appeared in his eyes.
"You're absolutely adorable." I looked down at my lap, my skin on fire. I went up stairs with Scott behind me. I sat down on the bed as he handed me a glass of water and my pill. "I want you to feel better quick."
"Why?"
"I'm going to take you where there is no slavery. Farther up north." He framed my face.
"Are you coming with me?" My question seemed stupid after it passed my lips. His thumb rubbed across my cheek.
"Yes I am." I laughed happily. He motioned around. "I can't take this Mitch. Them treating you like shit and the others are treated worse because they don't have my protection." I pulled him down to kneel in front of me.
"Run away with me." He laughed at my playful, commanding tone.
"After I get money, we'll run." I sighed as he pulled me into a hug.
The rest of my day consisted of sleeping on and off while Scott did his errands. I still wasn't well enough to be outside. I was looking out the window when Scott came home that night so I didn't see the person creeping behind me. I did feel the hand cover my mouth and the needle injecting liquid in my body. Any attempts to scream were muffled. I crumpled to the ground. Before I blacked out, I saw my attacker's shoes.
