I sat on my bed for a couple of minutes, processing, and planning. It was my first day of school and I knew no one and no one knew me. So many ways it could have gone and I doubted it would be good for me. A loud sigh escaped as I got up. Then I grabbed a brush from my bathroom and began roughly running it through my hair. After I was done, my hair was just a frizzled mess. I let out an annoyed growl, but came up with a solution quickly.
After pulling my long hair into a tight bun I secured it with many, many bobby pins. I pulled open a drawer and laid my uniform out on the bed that I had made up after I woke up.Piece by piece I pulled it on. First was a clean white turtleneck sweater. Next was a pale blue dress that went down to my knees. Lastly was a black ribbon around the neck of the sweater. I also put on some white socks with some frills on them along with shiny, black buckle shoes.
After finishing getting ready I grabbed my bag full of books Jeremy had given me before he left and head out the door. I walk through the hall, down the stairs, into the lobby and out into the courtyard. This time when I walked through the dorms I saw more kids. Some ignored me like Willow did and few looked at me and whispered in hushed voices to others. I kept my eyes on the ground, feeling more uneasy than before.
My stomach quaked like it was being flipped over and over. I just wanted to hurry to class and finish up the day. Breathing in deeply, I looked up at the main building. It was fairly large compared to the number of kids who attended the school. I assumed classes would be quite small. Knowing there wouldn't a whole lot of people made me feel better than before.
However, I still felt indecisive about going through with it, but I walked up the stone steps and through the large doors anyways. The thick, dark wooden doors were propped open, allowing the students to flowing in like a river. Slowly, I stepped inside, going with the current. I scanned the hall and found blue lockers lined the wall, the same color as the doors in the dorm. The floor was covered with a black tile that looked like snowflake obsidian, but with pale blue. The same shade as the doors, my uniform, and lockers. By now I had come to the conclusion that pale blue was the school's color. I actually didn't mind the color too much. Blue was always one of my favorite colors, but if I saw it too much it might get old.
The hall was loud, like a jungle full of tropical birds that liked to sing nonstop. I didn't think I would ever really get used to it since I was sensitive to loud noises like that. Still, I tried to block out the sound. I just focused on walking to my class.
There was still some time before class would begin, but I didn't feel like waiting in the hall while the other students ran around like rampant animals. I hurried into the room that was on a schedule I was given last night by Jeremy when he gave me my bag. Only two other students were in the room along with the teacher. The two, a boy and a girl, had the same curly mess of hair of fire red hair on their head and both were speckled with freckles. From what I could tell they were almost the same height as well.
The girl caught sight of me and turned, showing me a metal smile. She skipped up to me, appearing to be a bit happy-go-lucky. The boy, on the other hand, heaved a sigh and followed her at a much slower pace.
"Elsie Clerr! It's nice to meet you. I'm Heaven Hoover and this is my twin brother, Angel." She giggled.
"O-Oh. Er. Hello there, Heaven... and Angel." I shyly greeted the two.
I peered at Angel who sat with his arms crossed, staring at the clock, appearing to be bored. Then back to Heaven who flashed her smile and braces once more.
"We are here to show you around, help you out, welc-"
"Blah, blah, blah. Basically, we are babysitting you till you're settled in." Angel interrupted his sister, staring at me now.
His intense, green-eyed glare caused me to look back to his sister. She elbowed his side hard, causing him to cry out in pain. She let out an angry sigh before she quietly scolded him for his behavior. Now they had attracted the attention of the teacher, an old man with grey hair and thick round glasses. He gave them the look that adults give to kids who are acting up.
"Anyway... We should go look around a bit." Heaven suggested before turning to her brother. "You can stay if you want. I don't give a crap, but I'm sure that Mr. Griffith would enjoy assigning detention after hearing that you were being a jerk to our lovely new student, Elsie Clerr."
Angel huffed out a groan as he rolled his eyes. Heaven grinned in satisfaction as he nodded his head. The red-haired girl then led the two of us out of the room into the noisy hallway. I walked beside Angel, keeping my eyes on the ground as I walked, though it felt like his eyes were on me. It was a pretty good reason for me not to look up, for every time I looked at him I felt like his eyes are those of a hawk. Predatory.
