Chapter 12

The streets were quiet, apart from the occasional vehicle driving by as Naruto dragged his feet along the cemented pathway. His mind was in a scramble. Everything that happened just didn't make sense to him!

Sasuke actively deciding to join their lunch table to walking with him to class to now being partners with him on an argumentative essay project!

The blond smiled slightly, remembering the scene.

The duo walked into class, the pale boy opening the door for him. Naruto was startled by the chivalrous action but sent him a grin and walked in. Eyes turned and stared at the two, most in shock and a few in amusement. Sasuke just ignored the looks and walked to his desk while Naruto made his way to his desk at the corner of the room, far away from everyone else. Sasuke looked back, eyebrow raised basically asking why the blond was sitting so isolated from everyone. The blond just sent him a look before looking down at his scratched desk.

15 minutes passed before the teacher walked in, head down, indulging in his orange hardcover 'novel'. Placing his book down, he sent a smile to the class before commencing.

"Good morning guys. Sorry for my punctuality." Kakashi apologised, his voice not sounding sorry at all. The class scoffed, used to this scenario.

"Kakashi-sensei, you're late everyday. By now we know you won't be here on time." Sakura said haughtily. The grey-haired man chuckled.

"Anyway, I have your essays graded. In general, the vocabulary and grammar is fine but the content could use some work except for a few." Kakashi said while he grabbed the papers in desk and proceeded to give them out.

"I have another project for you." Kakashi said, rolling his eyes at the groans and complains filling the air. The man sighed in exasperation. "This will be a partnered project." The class erupted into cheers and screams, with the girls crowding around Sasuke's desk, asking him to be their partner.

"Sasuke! Please be my partner!" Sakura squealed out, grabbing his arm. Sasuke scowled, shaking it off and glaring at the annoying fangirl.

"He doesn't want to be your partner Forehead! Leave him alone!" Ino shouted

"No! Sasuke be my partner!"

"He's my partner!"

"Sas-"

Kakashi rubbed his temples, looking amusedly at the scene. Deciding to intervene, Kakashi shouted over the noise.

"I've decided on the partners so sit down and calm down!" His voice boomed across the class. As Kakashi went down the list of the students he has partnered, Naruto groaned, hiding his head in his arms on the desk.

'I'm so fucked.' Naruto thought, hoping and praying to a higher deity that he won't be partnered with any asshole kid. Probability of that was pretty slim though.

"Shino and Hinata and last Sasuke and Naruto." Kakashi listed down, smirking amusedly at Sasuke's expression of relief. Naruto immediately raised his head, cerulean eyes dilated in surprise. He turned to look at Sasuke, to see onxy eyes looking at him. The blond grinned, before looking down at his desk thinking...

'Life's on my side for once.'

As his thoughts wondered, Naruto finally arrived at his home. Walking in, he decided to skip eating and beelined straight to his room. Flopping onto his bed he laid down and rested his eyes. Suddenly his phone buzzed, vibrating in his pocket. Sitting up, he grabbed his phone out, probably expecting it to be Kiba.

Sasuke

- So where do you want to do the project? Your place or mine?

Startled, the blond had no idea what to reply and how Sasuke got his number, until he remembered they exchanged numbers and addresses before they parted from school. Grinning excitedly, the blond replied.

Naruto

-My place would be good?

Sasuke

-Yeah sure. Anyway I'll get some research done on the topic. You do yours as well dobe.

Naruto

-Hey! I can do my research as well! I ent dumb -_-

Sasuke

-Your intelligence level is questionable but whatever makes you sleep at night.

Naruto

-Asshole! :(

Sasuke

-Lol. I'll be at your place in 2 hours. I'll see what I can find.

Naruto

-Okay! ^_^

Sasuke stared at his phone, a weird, nostalgic feeling swirling inside him. The pale boy couldn't help but feel how familiar Naruto felt to him. The way he typed, the emoticons he sent, the back and forth arguments felt recognisable and comfortable.

The blond dropped his phone onto the bed and swung his legs over the bed.

"Might as well get to work now." Naruto said to himself, feeling happy at the prospect that now Sasuke and him could be friends.

Time passed as Naruto was deep into his research when the doorbell rang. The blond stood up and looked around his room, seeing if it was tidy enough before rushing down the stairs and opening the front door. Sasuke stood there in his black jeans and fitted navy hoodie, a small smirk adorning his face. The blond couldn't help but stare before Sasuke snapped his fingers.

"Dobe? Are you going to invite me in or are you just going to stand there looking like an idiot?" Sasuke said amusedly. The blond huffed and glared, muttering 'bastard' under his breath. They walked up the stairs in silence, Naruto's head in a panic, wondering if he should say something or not. Sasuke walked behind, staring the fluffy blond head of hair, smiling slightly at the adorable reactions and expressions Naruto did. Blushing slightly at that thought, he walked into Naruto's bright room and his eyes immediately zoned to the PC. Looking impressed, he sat on bed while Naruto sat on his desktop chair.

"Nice PC. Corsair One Pro right? It's pretty good for gaming." Sasuke said, admiring Naruto's setup. The blond grinned proudly.

"Thanks dude. It's really good. Processing speed is fast and 960 GB storage."

Sasuke nodded. "So you game? What do you play?"

Naruto froze slightly, his mind in a dilemma.

'Fuck should I come clean? But on the other hand... fuck it, I'll go along with my lie for now.'

"Ahh... Rusty Hearts, League of Legends, Runescape and have some games on Steam. I play Skyrim too." Naruto listed. Onxy eyes widened as Sasuke gaped a little.

"Avid gamer. Used to play Skyrim too. That game kills time." Sasuke chuckled, Naruto laughing along with him.

"Yeah that's true. What do you play?" Naruto asked, already knowing the answer.

"At the moment, Perfect World. It's pretty good. Check it out." Sasuke said as he took out his laptop out of his bag. Naruto grinned awkwardly.

"Yeah.. I should. Anyway we'll get to work?" Naruto asked. The pale boy nodded and they proceeded to work on their project, arguing at one moment and discussing about random games in another moment. Sasuke smiled whenever the blond grinned brightly or started talking about something with such enthusiasm, finally being able to see the blond's true personality.

'It's a shame that he isn't like this always. At least he can be who he is with me.' Sasuke thought as he looked into his laptop while listening to the dobe's excited voice.
