We are currently finishing an operation when we heard a very loud siren all over the place. Ethan gave me a meaningful look. I acted like it was nothing to me.
That siren...that only means one thing. We are in danger.
"Keep going, people. Just keep going." I reminded everyone and continued what I'm doing.
Ang mga nurses sa gilid ko ay nagtitinginan na sa isa't isa. Nagtataka kung bakit hindi ko pa inihihinto ang operasyon.
The guy that I'm operating on right now has no injuries but has a leakage of blood in his heart. We had to operate him right away, dahil kung patatagalin pa ay mas lalong lalala ito.
The siren didn't stop. I can almost hear everyone's breathing inside the operating room.
We have never encountered a situation like this. Hindi pa namin kailanman narinig ang sirena na iyan. We have no idea what is happening outside this operating room.
"Dr. Donovan..." The other doctor called. Nilingon ko siya at tinaasan ng kilay. "We have to stop now. It's an emergency."
"No," agap ko. "I couldn't leave this one hanging. Just give me a few minutes and I'll finish this."
Nagtinginan naman ang lahat. Hindi ko na lang iyon pinansin. I already cut this guy open! There is no turning back.
"Margaux," si Ethan. Alam ko na agad ang pinaparating niya.
"Yeah... Yeah... I know I'll stitch him up now." Sabi ko.
I checked the heart once again, waiting for another leakage. I sighed when there's none, so I started stitching everything up.
Nagulat naman ang lahat nang may biglang pumasok na sundalo sa operating room. He's in his full gear now while carrying that big ass of a gun!
"You all need to get out of here now." anito.
Everyone looked at me. Hinihintay ang magiging utos ko.
"I can finish this one. You can head out now." Sabi ko.
"I'll stay." Ani Ethan. Tiningnan ko siya. His eyes were pleading with me to hurry up because I know he's so scared right now.
Maybe he's only acting brave because he's inside the operating room. That's one thing that I learned about being a surgeon. When you're inside an operating room, panicking can't happen. You have to put on a brave mask even though deep inside of you... You just want to get the hell out of here.
Sinunod naman ng iba ang sinabi ko. The others were hesitating, but I nodded at them to assure them that it's okay to head outside now. I tried to stitch this man up as fast as I could so we could get the hell out of here.
