Nico

"Alright, Alright! I admit that you won!" I shouted in panic. Why, you ask? This girl, who can barely move one of her arms had me pinned down on the floor of the mess hall with a knife, my one to be exact, at my throat.

"Good." She said, getting off of me and removing the knife from under my chin.

"Can I have my sword back, Alyssa?" I asked.

After a few seconds of thought, she finally agreed and gave me back my sword.

"Thanks. Oh, bye the way, Alyssa, you lost I won." I said smirking.

"WHY YOU LITTLE-" She started to shout but then Annabeth burst through the door with a thoroughly confused Percy close behind her.

"Where's Leo?" She demanded, looking from me to Alyssa.

"I'm here, Annabeth. I was just watching Nico make Alyssa exremely mad." Leo said from behind me. He was sitting on a chair at the table with a sandwitch halfway through to his mouth. It looked like he'd seeing the whole episode of Alyssa getting immensly terryfingly mad at me.

With a grin he added, "Oh, and I may have witnessed a few kisses too."

Percy's mouth suddenly fell open. Annabeth looked like she was trying to supresss a smile. Meanwhile me and Alyssa blushed furiously and started denying it.

"No way!"

"Leo's Lying!"

"Yuck!"

"Yew!"

"Gross!"

"Her?"

"He's like a brother to me!"

"Yeah! No more!"

"No way in Hades!"

"Don't use my father's name in vain!"

"SO-RRY!"

"Guys, it was nothing. There was none of that. I just beat Nico in a little fight and Leo was so totally lying." Alyssa concluded. "Now, why did you want to see Leo, Annabeth?"

Annabeth turned and faced Leo, whose sandwitch was still suspended halfway from his mouth.

"Leo, we need to change the route." Annabeth told him.

"Why?" was Leo's genius response.

"The mark of Athena is showing me where to go again." Annabeth said in a rush.

"Oh, okay then. Just let me finish my sandwitch and i'll be right with you." Leo said, bringing his sandwitch closer to his mouth.

"Leo, now." Annabeth said warningly.

"Oh Fine! Jeeze Lady!" Leo said, setting his precious sandwich on his plate and got up, following Annabeth to the engine room, leaving me, Percy and Alyssa.

"Should I feel safe to leave you two alone?" Percy asked.

I scowled at him but Alyssa beat me to it. "Probably not a good idea since, the moment you leave I will whip his butt." Alyssa said pointing her thumb at me.

"Hey! It was not fair! You only won because I had no weopon." I protested.

"Well, nothing is fair in this world, Nico." Alysss told me.

"Yeah, you're right. Nothing's fair." I said sadly before heading out to the deck, for some fresh air.

I'm sure that Alyssa didn't mean for it to offend me or anything, but it reminded me of something.

I leant against the railing, remembering that moment when I was 10 years old, as if it was yesterday. The day I found out that Bianca, my sister had died. The only person who ever understood me.

I stood there, all of it coming back to me again as the wind swept my hair into my eyes.

Then I felt a hand on my shoulder and a little voice say, "Sorry."

"It's okay." I told her but my voice cracked a little.

Before I even realised what was happening, Alyssa pulled me into a hug.

And just for a moment, I felt like I had my sister back.

The ship continued onwards, following the mark of athena, until finally an unsure Leo called Annabeth forward to the wheel.

"Are you sure we're supposed to go this way?" He asked her, staring at the dark abyss of a cave that was aproaching them.

The fiery owl however had lost none of its bright red glare and was burning as bright as ever.

"I have to agree with Leo." Percy muttered. "I feel as if that owl is trying to burn a hole right through me."

Annabeth punched him in shoulder playfully. "Idiot." She muttered.

Beside me, Alyssa laughed at the two. "You're wrong Percy." She stated. "Athena wouldn't try to burn a hole through you. She'd try to transfigure you into a huge paperclip so that she has something to hold all her anti-percabeth files together."

Percy shuddered and Leo laughed.

Even I had to hold in a smile.

A sudden burst of thunder brought everyone back to their present selves.

"What is that place?" Sadie asked, looking at the cave.

She and Carter had joined the rest of us back on deck just moments ago.

Hazel shivered. "Something evil is down there."

She looked at me in hopes that I may be able to prove her wrong but I knew as well as she did that nothing good was going to come out of this trip.

"Well," Annabeth said. "We always face evil stuff right?"

Sadie forced out a laugh. "This can't be any different."

So Leo veered the ship in through the mouth of the cave.

At once darkness engulfed us and my heart sank down to the pit of stomach as a sudden dreaded feeling engulfed me.

I felt something down here. Something strange.

Hazel walked over to me, guided by a ball of fire Leo had made appear on his hand.

"Nico?" She asked hesitantly.

"Someone's here."

She nodded. "Some who had cheated death."
