Jax laid there in the snow, as he held his face. He couldn't stop smiling, finally knowing that Caroline was safe. David walked over to the man he shot, Olivia following behind him, as he looked down at the lifeless body. The snow was stained with blood, as David then turned back to Jax.
"We need to find shelter for the night. We won't make it back before dark." David said, as he looked down at Jax.
Jax continued to hold his hands over his face, as he moved his arms across, wiping the short tears away from his eyes. He stood up and continued to smile as he looked at David. He nodded softly, as the four of them left the scrap yard. They walked through the woods until the sun was finally gone and the dark night had arrived. They found a small house in the woods, the roof was collapsed in, the windows shattered; yet it wasn't the cabin. There were strange burn marks across the outside walls, probably some incident happened a while ago, but the four of them went in anyway. It was dark and empty as they entered. Olivia shut the door behind them as the rest explored the inside.
"Hello?" David called out, as his voice echoed almost through the house. The house was mostly empty. The furniture seemed to have been moved around near the windows and the doors for some reason.
Jax began to kick away some of the snow that managed to get inside the house, creeping through the windows and falling inside from the opened roof. There was no second floor of the house, just the first floor where the four of them stood. Jax placed his bag down as he took out a heavy blanket, laying it down on the area that had the least amount of snow.
Lisa walked around the house, looking at the furniture which was pushed away. There were large bullet holes in some of them, and dark burn marks on others. She began to wonder about the events that took place there, but it was irrelevant now. She walked over to David as she saw him going outside.
"Where're ya going?" She asked him, as he turned back to her.
"Collecting sticks for a fire." He said.
"Need some help?" Lisa asked him.
David nodded softly. "Sure."
The two of them walked out, as Olivia came over to Jax.
"Sorry about everything." She said to him, as she sat down on the blanket, taking off her bag from his back. She unzipped it as she pulled out a much heavier coat.
Jax glared at her uneasily, as he pulled out a few MRE's. "No hard feelings." He said as he threw one to her.
Olivia caught it, as she smiled at him. She sat back on the blanket, waiting for her brother and Lisa.
David went along the trees, snapping off a few sticks from each one.
"So how did you and Jax meet?" He asked Lisa, as she was doing the same.
"Funny story actually." She said as she chuckled a bit. "I️ first found him in that cabin, he was just sleeping there. I️ felt him breathing so I️ thought I'd wait for him to wake up but he never did...yet, I️ stayed with him anyway. Kept him company." She said, chuckling again.
David laughed a bit. "Yeah- I️ saw you have one of my rifles." He said. "I️ assume you took that from the cabin?"
Lisa replied. "Oh yeah- sorry. If you want it back you can—"
"Keep it." David said as he cut her off. "We have plenty of guns already." He said as he finished gathering sticks and rocks. "Alright. That should do." He said as the two of them went back to the house.
