I was running for my life.

'If I remember right there is a building at the end of this field.'
He was right behind me, I thought. The building meant safety from the enemy snipers. A bullet sailed past my face. That was to close. I crested the hill and saw the building. My safe haven. All I need is one last burst of energy and I'll be there. So I get a good grip on my sniper rifle and sprint towards my destination. As I ran several gunshots flew past my body, barely missing me. The building was only 20 yards away now. I ran faster. 10 yards. 5 yards. I jump the last couple of feet. I stand in the middle of the room, trying to catch my breath. I was only standing for a minute when a grenade was tossed into the room. I dive out of the room and run towards the mountains. I make it to the base of the mountains when I turn around and see that my enemy hasn't made it out of the building yet. I start climbing with the thought of good sniping positions in my head. I find a perfect position in between two trees, in which the doorway that I came out of was in view, but I was not. I sighted in on the doorway. My enemy slowly walked out and looked in both ways for me. I forgot to mention that I only have one bullet left, so I have to make this shot count. I slowly sighted in on him. I had the crosshairs on his forehead when he turned and saw me. I pulled trigger.

That's when my cousin, Stephan,    turned the Xbox off and deleted the game. He has been staying with us for the last two weeks. He lives in the far away Sinnoh region so he doesn't get to visit that often. I threw the controller down and yelled "What the crap. Why did you do that? I was about to kill you."

"That's exactly why I turned it off, Dylan. We need to get out and do something. All we've done while I've been here is play Halo," he said.

"Well, what else would you like to do"? I asked him.

"We could go to the fair," he said.

"I don't have any money for tickets," I said.

"You could go ask your mom for some money," he said. I got up and walked down the hallway. I walked into the front room. My mom was sitting on the couch eating lunch, which was a bowl of cereal for her, and watching the Pokémon World Tournament. That's when she saw me.

"Ah Dylan, there you are, I haven't seen you all morning. Come, sit next to me," she said patting the cushion next to her.

"Do you know what this is?" she asked as she pointed to the TV.

"Yeah it's the final match, Ash vs. Gary," I said.

"Oh, sorry, you look hungry," she said shoving a spoonful of cereal into my mouth. I stood up and walked back to the doorway.

"I was wondering if we could have some money for the fair?" I asked. Not looking away from the TV, she reached down in search for her purse. She found it and pulled it up on the couch. She reached in and searched for her wallet. She pulled out a Mcdonalds cheeseburger.

"That's not it," she said as she laughed. She threw it over her shoulder and it landed behind the couch. She continued looking and eventually found her wallet. She threw it at me and said, "Split whatever's in there with your sister."

I open the wallet and pull out a twenty.

"Thanks," I said. I started walking back to my room when I heard "Way to go Ash, 1 down 5 to go." Then some cheering. I opened the door to my room and found Stephan looking at the family pet Goldeen in it's tank. He looked up when I entered the room.

"So what's the plan?" he asked.

"Mom gave me a twenty, but the thing is we have to bring Layla," I told him.

"That's fine I just want to get out of the house," he told me.

"You go get Layla and I'll get ready to go," I said. He went to go tell Layla to get ready. I walked over to my desk and got my travel bag. Then I walked out to our supply closet which was full of pokeballs. Dad was a firm believer in catching every pokemon you see. After he left, Mom never used any of the pokeballs because she said that we were using up what was left of our dad. No one new where he went either. He just got up and left one day and didn't come back.

I clipped six pokeballs to my belt and put twelve more in the bag for Stephan and Layla. Stephan looked at me, confused.

"You know, just in case we run into any weak wild pokemon." I said.

Then I started walking over to layla's room. I could hear Layla and Stephan inside arguing. I walked into the room and asked "Why are you guys yelling?"

"She says she's not going," said Stephan.

"What makes you think that I want to go to the fair?" she asked.

"Hey Layla there's a competition at the fair and the winner gets a grass type pokemon egg," I told her.

"Really!?" she shouted, "I have to get ready."

"I didn't know you like grass types," said Stephan.

"Well if you would visit more than once a year, you would know that I LOVE grass types," she said throwing a bag over her shoulder.

"Sorry I'll try to visit more often, " he said.

"Are you guys done arguing because the fair closes at eight and it's already two," I said.

"Yeah let's go," said Layla herding us out of her room. We were still being herded as she pushed us into the living room.

"We're leaving," I said as she pushed us out the door.

"Okay, bye!" she yelled through a mouthful of cereal.

When we reached Viridian City we realized we didn't know where the fair was. We had to ask a woman for directions.

"Turn around and head to the pokemon center, you can't miss it," she said. She threw us a smile and then she was gone. So we turned around and headed to the pokemon center, and what do you know, there it was. It was directly next door to the the pokemon center. As soon as we walked into the fair a dark skinned carni marched up to us. He was wearing a squirtle suit.

"I'm sorry but the fair is closed to anyone who is not wearing a starter pokemon suit," said the carni. That's when I noticed the people. Everyone was either wearing a Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur suit. Except one person, she was playing a game where you throw rings at a bunch of bottles to win a pokemon egg.

"Wait a second, she's not wearing a costume," I said.

"Oh yeah, that's Lexi," he said, "she beat me in a battle."

"We don't have any pokemon," Layla said sadly.

"Okay how about this, you can come back with pokemon or you can come back with a costume. If you come back with a pokemon and beat me in a battle I will let you in for free and you can play all the games for free too," he said.

"Okay," said Layla, "I'll come back with a pokemon." She ran off back towards Pallet Town.

"It would be pretty cool to have our own pokemon," Stephan said to me.

"Yeah it would," I said. I turned back to the carni. "We'll come back with pokemon too."

"Okay well I'll be here waitin' for you," he said. We left the fair and walked back to Pallet Town.
