A battle between man and monster

<A/N changing the way how I write the story, now it will be 3rd person instead>

A number of other wolves started to surrounding them right after Amarok had appeared.

“Seems like we’re in quite a pinch.” Gil said.

“We’ll take care of the small fry. You go and take down Amarok” Sarah said.

“What? You want me to fight that beast?” Josh shouted.

But they already started fighting off the other smaller wolves. Amarok leaped straight at Josh with its front paw trying to catch me. Luckily Josh had been refined by war so he was used to being attacked head on. Josh dodged out of the way, drawing his blade. He raced towards the beast, but suddenly, it seemed he was frozen in place . A shadowy tendril lashed around his body and held him in place. Amarok slowly opened its mouth. A pitch-black ball appeared before its mouth, and started growing and swirling at fast rate.

“Use your magic, you fool!” Gil shouted as he sunk his own weapon into the body of a wolf.

Startled by Gil, Josh shook his head recovering some of his mental state.

"Raaaaahh"

Amarok roared as it blasted the ball of black at him, having the size of wrecking ball and the very trees it flew past died from its mere presence.

His heart hammered in his chest. His breathing was ragged.

“F*ck!” Josh screamed, the word just popping into his mind. The black ball engulfed his entire body. Pain exploded across every nerve in his body until everything went black.

“Where am I?” Seeing his soul once again but this time a black mist surrounded it.

'This must be in my soul space' Josh thought. The dark mist that surrounded his soul gradualy started to get sucked into it at an alarming rate. Josh opened his eyes; he was back in the real world. 'Something about my body felt different. I felt stronger, faster.' Josh glared at the wolf in front of him and it froze in place. This must be the power of the 《Eye of death》. Before the spell wore off, dashing at the beast and brought the sword that he got from his very first fight in this world, bringing it down onto its back.

SWISH!

Blood splatered everywhere. The sword sliced through its body like butter. Its body fell to the ground and dissolved into ash.

From the ash, a black crystal shard with a green aura floated from the wolf’s shadowy remains and towards me. Not hesitating, Josh grabbed onto it, clutching it tightly in his hand. He felt the rush of strength in his soul once again. When the feeling faded, he placed the crystal in his pocket. Turning around to the others, who were catching their breath, the shadowy corpses of wolves all around them.

Sarah turned to Josh, but her expression changed. “Who are you,” she asked. “Where’s Josh?”

“Did something happen to her mind?” Josh asked confused.

“She’ll be fine,” Gil said. “Josh, collect its essence core: we need it as proof to get our reward.”

“Sure thing Gil.”  Turning back around once again to the still present ash of used to be the alive wolf. Digging around in the ashes revealed another crystal, but this one had a deep crimson aura to it, very different from the green aura crystal I had found before. I went over to the others and helped collect the ones that they had killed but the essence core in the lower ranking wolves were smaller and had a pink glow that contrasted greatly to the crystal of their King. By the time we finished collecting the crystals it was already night fall. Walking a short distance from the battle, we chose to set up camp for the night.
