Leaving the forest, Josh and the others didn't head towards the village but left for the city where Gil was stationed and also where they had received the order to take out Amarok, wolf of darkness. The city streets were bustling with vendors and peoples of all classes.
Having learned from Lux the basic things of the world, Josh already had an understanding of some things like nobles, royalty etc. Like the Shang family was the ruler of the city and- from the description that it gave- they were not people to offend.
There were also academies for warriors and magicians like the ones Gil was a part of. It was called Black Raven academy. Gil was actually a superior at Black Raven while Sarah was a student who had been enrolled for two years. Black Raven academy was a place that gave out missions to their students when they were strong enough. They also had training arenas where you would train before going out to fight with beasts.
"Welcome to the Black Raven academy where you learn to become a real warrior or magician." Gil look at Josh with a grin.
Four guards were stationed at the front, each wearing sturdy chest plate armor with an intimidating black raven displayed over the heart.
“Welcome back superior Gil” the four guards said simultaneously, bowing in respect.
The black Raven Academy was different from the outside. While the city had many vendors and peoples of different class, status and wealth, there were only kids varying from 13 to 21 present here. They were also wearing different color robes; each with a Raven printed on the back. They entered a brightly lit building with blue and pink colored tiles.
“I’m going to report the status of the mission. You guys stay here,” Gil said. He went through a hall way with black tiles.
Josh turned to Sarah, only to find her gone as well. After ten boring 10 minutes of standing around, Gil returned.
“Follow me” Gil said with a quirked eyebrow, “The headmaster wants to speak with you.”
As he followed Gil, Josh felt himself tense up. His muscles, honed to kill since the age of ten, were prepared for the inescapable conflict of war and combat. Gil pat him on the back, trying to ease his tension.
“Don’t worry,” Gil said with a laugh, “He’s just going to ask you a couple questions.”Josh’s muscles relaxed by a fraction, but it was enough. They finally arrived at a double door.
“Head masters he’s here,” Gil said.
“Come in, Elder Gil," A voice resonated from behind the double door.As both door swung open there was a forty something old man with a small figure, a goatee and flowing salt-and-pepper hair sitting comfortably behind a large rectangular desk.
The headmaster gestured his hands out indicating to Josh to have a seat. “Hello friend; my name is John King.”
Josh stared at the vice head master before taking a seat. His eyes didn’t leave the man for a second, narrowed with a suspicious air. The headmaster chuckled softly.
“You are a cautious young one indeed.” John said. Getting up from his seat John went to a nearby window while looking outside before saying “ I won’t keep you long, so let’s get to the point.”
Josh felt a cold sweat run down his back. On his way over Lux had informed him about the stages of Cultivation; the higher your Cultivation was, the more pressure you could release on some that’s below you.
“Lux how profound is his Cultivation?” Josh whispered.
“Dear master,” Lux responded, “He is currently at the Peak martial king, two stages above you. He’s about to break through soon.” Lux replied.
“Boy you have something which belongs to the Black Raven Academy and it is of grave importance that no one knows you have it.” The head master told him in a stern voice.“If that’s all I’ll be taking my leave.” Josh said, eager to leave the room.
Josh all but ran to the door, but before he could reach out to the handle a figure appeared before him folding both arms. It was the figure of the vice head master.“Not so fast,” the vice headmaster chastised him.
Josh leapt back and took a fighting stance.
John glared at Josh with displeasure and a hint of surprise.
“You are indeed brave,” John admitted, “But that bravery might be the end of you.” He indicated the seat. “Now sit down. I didn’t say you could leave.”
Josh didn’t take a seat, but he didn’t attack either. The headmaster scoffed, returning to his desk.
“Fine,” John consented, “Stand if you wish, but let me finish what I have to say.” He took his seat behind the large rectangular desk. As he folded his arms, his stern look became a more affable smile. “I want you to enroll in our academy.”
