I don't own Kantai Collection or any of its characters. I don't own any warships either, just so we're clear. I only own my OCs and their history. Still don't own any art. Nothing more, nothing less.
"Oh god, how should I start this briefing..."
Marianna had never briefed a ship girl before, and she didn't plan it out, unlike the other times she had. The young woman who sat in front of her was Arizona, who answered the call from a small, fourteen year old girl. It was something she hadn't expected one of their warships to do. Avelina, as Marianna had noticed was playing nervously with the box in her hands.
Though it was the same nervous girl who spoke up in her father's stead, "Uh, John and I already told her about abyssals and Japan, so..."
"That's a good enough place to start." Marianna sighed before turning back to Arizona who had placed her rigging on the floor of the room. It was a miracle it didn't fall right through. "Arizona, I'll just start it off simple for you. Today's date is July 5th, 2019. We've been at war with these abyssals for nearly 5 years now, and more than seven thousands of people have died in that time." She took a moment to pause, seeing if Arizona had a question to ask.
"Admiral, would you mind me asking what exactly an abyssal is?" Arizona questioned her. This is the most serious Avelina has seen the red haired battleship. Marianna found herself sighing.
"We don't know exactly what these abyssals are, though, what we do know is that they are highly developed sea life that are extremely hostile. They started first by attacking cargo ships and merchant ships, then when a merchant ship came back into port, they were able to show the officials what exactly it was attacked by. That was barely before San Francisco was attacked by abyssals who were chasing down some boats into port. The battle lasted more than a week until the final shot killed the last of them. So many people died in that one week of the attack."
Avelina's gaze fell to the ground at the mention of the attack. She hated it when people mentioned the death of people in big numbers. Especially if was during World War 2 and beyond. Marianna turned to Avelina. "Do you happen to have a picture of one of them?"
She blinked. "O-Oh... I've got a picture off online." Avelina replied as she fished out her phone and opened her photos app. She handed it to Arizona. "Here... That's a Ru-class battleship. There are a lot more, but that's the only one I have..."
Arizona scanned the photo on the device she was given. The "abyssal" as they called her, was had glowing turquoise eyes, and long black hair. She appeared to have these demonic-like structure attached to her arms, covering her elbows down. It didn't help that she was facing the camera, probably ready to fire at whatever was taking the picture.
As she handed it back to Avelina, John decided to elaborate, "That's kind of where you girls come in. Japan was the first to prove a ship girl's usefulness, seeing as they've taken Wake Island, Midway, and other such places."
"So, are you planning to bring in everyone else?" Arizona suddenly asked. Marianna already had the answer she was looking for.
"Arizona, believe me. Along with the other admirals, I've been trying suggested methods from other countries to get you all to answer." She replied as she stood up and clutched her cap close to her. "It's just that you girls come at random. Some methods have worked for others, and this is the first of which that succeeded for us. We don't know how the other ships will answer the call, and we were hoping that the first ship girl we got would inspire the others to do so as well."
Marianna turned to Arizona who seemed deep in thought. "I don't think this answer satisfies you as much as you expected. Though, your country needs your help again, even if we don't have the right to call on you all who were either sunk, scuttled, scrapped, or not even completed."
